Tax Cuts Numerology -- Some Embarrasing Numbers for the Democrats

This week’s numbers: 9; 59; .75; 4; 723,000; 60 billion; 450; 400; 900 billion; 5 million

9... is a deliberative number. That’s how many years Democrats had to craft a strategy for repealing the Bush tax cuts. Who knew they’d be cunning enough to procrastinate until a month before they were set to expire, panic, and renew them all.

59... is an approving number. According to a Bloomberg poll, that’s the percentage of Americans who favor repealing tax cuts for the rich. Sadly, Senate Democrats know there’s no way to accomplish anything with just 59 percent support.

.75... is a positive number. That’s the percentage by which President Obama’s tax deal is expected to boost GDP growth in 2011. It may not seem like much, but many expected him to emerge from negotiations with an offer to resign.

2. About the number 59
"59... is an approving number. According to a Bloomberg poll, that’s the percentage of Americans who favor repealing tax cuts for the rich. Sadly, Senate Democrats know there’s no way to accomplish anything with just 59 percent support."

Fortunately, to do nothing requires only 40%
60% is required for Senate to pass the extension, and if we do nothing, the tax cuts expire.
