House Democrats push through massive budget bill
House Democrats push through massive budget bill

WASHINGTON – Democrats controlling the House muscled through legislation Wednesday night that would freeze the budgets of most Cabinet departments and fund the war in Afghanistan for another year.

The bill would cap the agencies' annual operating budgets at the $1.2 trillion approved for the recently finished budget year — a $46 billion cut of more than 3 percent from President Barack Obama's request.

It includes $159 billion to prosecute the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq next year.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I am so glad we are cutting spending here during an economic meltdown that has left so many insecure so we can continue the war in Afghanistan. Not.

3. kind of like a SSI tax break that will "force" them to raise retirement and cut benefits
instead of the logical move to DO AWAY WITH the SSI ceiling... People who earn more than $108,600 should still have to pay SSI on ALL their earnings.
If *i* have to pay SSI on 100% of my paycheck, why shouldn't doctors, lawyers, ceo's etc? Why let them stop paying once they cross $108,600 (might be 106,800 - but you get the idea)
