Obama Contributors Deeply Opposed to Tax Deal
http://politicalwire.com/archives/2010/12/07/obama_contributors_deeply_opposed_to_tax_deal.html

A new SurveyUSA poll finds 74% of those who contributed to Barack Obama's presidential campaign in 2008 are opposed to his deal with Republicans to extend the Bush-era tax breaks for those making over $250,000 a year.

The depth of opposition is severe with 51% saying they are less likely to contribute to Obama's reelection campaign in 2012. In addition, 57% say it makes them less likely to support congressional Democrats who support this deal in 2012.

4. And hopefully it comes hard ...
... and knocks some sense into our president. He can't keep giving the GOP what they want and then expect people to be excited about voting Dems in 2012. It won't happen.

2. He won't receive another dime from me - but after Citizens United it doesn't matter anyway.
Our choices are now between fascism and friendly fascism.

3. But we have noplace else to go, right? That's what the WH is counting on...
But, from the Dems I'm hearing from, that's not something to count on anymore.

7. Yes, he will see stadiums full to the rafters in 2012
just like in the old days.

Seriously, I think he's going to join the idle elite and "spend more time with his family" - leaving us high and dry and fighting for crumbs

6. If they think I am going to contribute one fucking dime to reelect,
they're out of their minds. Fortunately for them, they will get what they want from their corporate masters.
Democracy is OVAH.

8. Maybe not
Obama caved to the health insurance industry and Wall St. and it didn't help/dems him one bit in the last election. They know the real thing and who will give them all that they want.

10. Oh, now. They just need to see the graphic with Obama in a forceful pose that declares
X% of Liberal Dems support Obama. That'll clear it right up.

13. The Same Who Opposed It In 2003...
Seems many here may have forgotten how contentious the 2003 votes were. Here's a little refresher:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jobs_and_Growth_Tax_Relief_Reconciliation_Act_of_2003

Final House vote:

Vote by Party Yes No
Republicans 224 99.6% 1 0.4%
Democrats 7 3.4% 198 96.6%
Independents 0 0.0% 1 100%
Total 231 53.6% 200 46.4%
Not voting 4 0

Final Senate vote:

Vote by Party Yea Nay
Republicans 48 3
Democrats 2 46
Independents 0 1
Total 50 50
Vice President Dick Cheney(R): Yes

Note that the deciding vote was cast by Crashcart...it was that divisive. Many of us opposed it then as a non-starter for jobs and a defecit buster. In my case, that opposition continues today. It didn't work and extending breaks for the rich for another two years is more of the same bad shit. I can and do accept making the cuts for those below 250k permanent but this should be accomplished by cutting other portions of the budget (namely defense). The "compromise" as proposed is an insult as this administration manuevered themselves into a weak position. It appears President Obama also forgot about that 2003 fight, but for good reason, he wasn't in the Senate at that point. He may not remember how brutal this first battle was, but some of us still do. We didn't support the payouts to the rich then and still don't now.

14. Thanks. Pieces of history like this should make some wonder
why he would ever, ever do something like what he did this week, since the precedent was so clearly not in favor of it.
