Scene opens on a desert landscape, with flat, dry, light-brown ground in all directions, which meets an unnaturally cobalt blue cloudless sky.
In the middle of nowhere stands a group of about two dozen men and women, dressed in suits. They mill about uncertainly, many looking worried, some looking indifferent as they check their blackberries or talk on mobile phones.
Suddenly, the next time the camera shows a wide shot, the group is surrounded by thousands of US soldiers looking dusty and weary.
Close-up on one soldier, who addresses the group of politicians.
"In one month, I will be killed by a roadside bomb, if you don't end this war," he says. He looks sad but resolved. Stoic.
Pan out. Now you can see that within the ranks of the soldiers explosions are going off (no noise - in fact, the only sound at all in the commercials is the voices of the actors when they speak). At random, soldiers disappear, or fade out and reappear in wheelchairs, heavily bandaged, missing limbs.
Pan around the group of politicians, who are defensively bunched up in a circle. Some still look indifferent. Some have taken to fighting with other politicians over luggage. One or two is crying, looking helplessly at the soldiers as they disappear. One stands with his hand over his heart, looking pointedly up into the air, away from the soldiers, reciting the pledge of allegiance. One has his fingers in his ears, mouthing "La La La, I can't hear you."
Close up on another soldier, a helicopter pilot.
"If you don't end this war, in six weeks my helicopter will go down," he turns a bit to indicate a group of soldiers behind him. "Most of them will die in the crash. I'll live, but I'll never be the same again."
Pan out to get a view of all the soldiers, and the viewer can see that the troops are steadily disappearing, and flashes (no sound) of explosions are going off amidst their ranks constantly. Now the viewer notices that some of the politicians are beginning to disappear as well.
Close up on another soldier.
"In 5 months, I will be killed in an ambush in the streets of Bagdhad. It will be the bloodiest single day of the war for US forces, so far, if you don't end this war."
Fade to black.
White text comes up, which reads, "Our soldiers are currently dying at the rate of 3.14 soldiers a day." (not sure what the rate is, but I know it's around that) Fade out.
White text comes up again, which reads, "The last six months have been the worst six months of the war so far in terms of US casualties." Fade out.
White text comes up again, which reads, in large letters, "End this war."
