Why Don't We Try The Reverse ??? - Raise Taxes On The Rich Temporarily For The Next Ten Years
Say... top rate, at 50 to 55 percent.

Until we are out of our current mess, fixed some shit, and have paid down the debt some.

Come on Upper-Class, your country needs you!

We've done it before...

It might even ("gasp") work!

on edit: The uberrich should be CLAMORING for a chance to do something good for America. I mean, they wouldn't want to be seen as anti-American you know.

5. No. Let's be fair. Let's raise taxes on everybody.
Lets increase the tax rate on everybody's income above one million dollars.

Then we will all share the burden equally.

6. No way! That would force the country up out of it's crisis. The GOP won't let that happen.

7. The numbers on that cartoon aren't accurate...
He's thinking about raising the rate to 38.6%, and under bush they were 35%. Also the 28% was under Bush 41, Reagan dropped it to like 32% or something, however they started at 70%.

10. Not Exactly Meant To Be...
It's more of a graphical representation of a metaphor that does not cause one to immediately fall asleep.

Shorthand of reality, if you will.

11. True, but it would be better if they used the actual numbers.
Sort of like why the daily show performs fact checks.

12. True... But Your VISA Card Comes With All Sorts Of Facts Too...
And most people don't bother to read them.

It's called the "fine print", and tends to make people's eyes glaze over.

Now, if you are a policy wonk, or an actual legislator... you should be required to know this stuff forward and backward.

And what are the chances of THAT?

14. If raising it approx 4% raises 700b in 10 years, then raising it 20% to 58.6% would
raise 5x4%, or 3.5 trillion in 10 years!

8. It would work just like it did for Clinton.
Personally I think we should raise the taxes and make them retroactive for the last 5 years. Maybe get some of that money that was robbed from retirees and other investors back.

16. Make them permanent.
Sooner, rather than later.

And if they object, roll out Ms. Antoiniette's ultimate death tax machine on 'em.

18. Yeah thats a great idea....
Increasing taxes always works, look at how well our corporate tax rates have worked with Google.

Raising taxes on the rich doesn't work because our tax code is so screwed up and the rich have the ability to hire an accountant to make sure they don't pay high taxes. Dems and Reps have spent the last century adding loopholes to the tax code to gain favor. Our tax code needs to be almost completely scrapped and redone. We need EVERYONE to pay taxes. Even the poor need to pay a small amount of tax. Something around 10%. The poor won't fix the debt, but it will bring some back to reality a bit. We sadly have millions of people who only vote on who promises the most. Putting a little of the burden on them will force them to use a little more logic in politics. Spending money isn't always the best answer, but if you arent paying any taxes, and that money is coming to you, it sure looks like a great idea.

Sadly, most of our nation thinks we can fix our problems by making others pay for it. Its the rich, poor, and middle class that got us into this mess, its time for everyone to help get us out.

17. I really can't understand why anyone would need a billion dollars,
yet there are 400 of them in this country. Maybe when we get to that level (one billion) we tax at 100%. Think how much we could fund just with that amount. Does anyone really need a billion dollars? What would one do with so much? And is it morally justifiable for someone to have that much money while others starve?

That is my solution.
