I never thought I would live to see the day! Really.

About this recognition, from Wiki:
The Presidential Medal of Freedom is a decoration bestowed by the President of the United States and is – along with the equivalent Congressional Gold Medal bestowed by an act of U.S. Congress – the highest civilian award in the U.S. It recognizes those individuals who have made "an especially meritorious contribution to the security or national interests of the United States, world peace, cultural or other significant public or private endeavors." The award is not limited to U.S. citizens and, while it is a civilian award, it can also be awarded to military personnel and worn on the uniform.

Maybe Roger Ailes next year?

:sarcasm:

Although the celebratory champagne has yet to touch my lips, the room is spinning to the right in a most disorienting way.

1. How about awarding one to Lee Atwater posthumously?
He was soul mates with Poppa Bush in 1988. They both strove towards world peace and cultural unification, didn't they? :sarcasm:

3. You know something very similar to that exact thought was going...racing, rather...through my mind.
Really? Like it had to be Poppi Bush? Really?

Really?

Have so many people been given Medals of Freedom we need to, uh, scrape the barrel like this?

5. I doubt it's worth quitting Obama over. But hopefully it fuels you with energy to hold his...
...feet to the fire.

I mean, it's not like he gave the Medal of Freedom to Robert Mugabe.

BTW, it actually took me a few seconds to pull up the name of someone dramatically worse than Poppi Bush who is still alive.

6. I know what you're saying about not giving up on Obama...
But it is my heartfelt, honest belief that Poppy Bush is one of the worst enemies the United States has ever had. Really and truly he has harmed this country far more than "foreign" enemies.

7. Poppy Bush is a terrible man and not one deserving of the Medal of Freedom.
The somewhat puzzling thing is not only that this is not evident to the President but that he is, in fact, of a diametrically-opposed opinion on the matter.

4. I wonder how many of the other honorees will boycott?
That seems a distinct possibility in this case.

9. Well, says it's "an especially meritorious contribution".
It's not like Bin Laden getting Time's "Person of the Year". This is supposed to be...well...umm...something reserved for the greatest.

I...I take exception, strong exception, to recognizing former President Bush in that manner.

But then again, it isn't my award to give. It's President Obama's choice, entirely.

And, again, we can evaluate people on the balance of their choices.

12. I can loathe the man but respect his charity work
Also, from what it looks like ex-Presidents just kind of get these as a matter of course from a President of the other party; the next Republican President will no doubt give one to Clinton.

They'll have GHW Bush and Warren Buffett as part of their exclusive club of Medal of Freedom winners. Can Michael "Heckuva job Brownie" Brown's medal be far behind?
