2. True. Just give it a little more time ...
turning us into a nation of serfs and peons takes a while.

4. Bush&Co and all his palz in the Congress let Osama Bin Laden win.
Republicants have NEVER been 'strong on defense', except for defense contracts.

5. Our Constitution was a great experiment ...
but government loves power.

Outside Independence Hall when
the Constitutional Convention of 1787 ended,
Mrs. Powel of Philadelphia asked Benjamin Franklin,

"Well, Doctor, what have we got, a republic or a monarchy?"

With no hesitation whatsoever, Franklin responded,
"A republic, if you can keep it."

6. In light of Russ Baker's Family of Secrets, what is your definition of government?

7. The government should be us ...
not the big corporate interests or the military industrial complex. Not the CIA, NSA or TSA. Not the Bushes and not the Clintons.

I haven't read Family Of Secrets but the reviews on Amazon interested me enough that I just downloaded the book on my Kindle.

8. Russ Baker was on Thom Hartmann this week. I just ordered my copy. Do you like your Kindle?
I am thinking I will give myself a Kindle for Christmas.

10. Yes! ...
I love to read but I keep running out of space for more books. The Kindle solved this problem.

Before I bought the Kindle I bought non-fiction books and went to the library for my fiction. The library in my small town has a limited selection of new books and I usually picked up four or five in hopes of finding two or three good reads. Often if I lucked out and found five good books I felt pressured to find the time to read them before the due date.

With the Kindle I can budget my time more effectively. If I want to spend all day reading (I'm retired) I can, if life interferes I can bypass reading entirely for a week.

Many Kindle books are free or cost only two or three dollars. The Kindle edition of "Family of Secrets" is $9.99 while the paperback is $13.14 from Amazon.com. There are too many times when a Kindle version of a book is above $10. Many Kindle owners just refuse to buy the higher priced books. The publisher may set the price, I'm not sure.

Of course, most classics are free or very cheap and I've enjoyed a number of books priced less than $3.00.

If you want to look at magazines or surf the web and play games, the IPad is probably the better choice. The Kindle is a dedicated book reader and it excels at that task.

The IPad looks bulky to have while laying in bed reading and the back light might cause eye strain. The Kindle is light and a convenient size. There is no back light and the experience is quite similar to reading a book. You will need light to read at night, I just use a table lamp but there are cases for the Kindle that come with a light.

If you need to look up the definition of a word you can just place the cursor beside it and the definition pops up. If you need the search the book for a minor character you can perform a quick search and call up every time the character is mentioned from the first to the last. You can also perform an internet search on google or wikipedia. In fact you can access the internet from your Kindle, but the Ipad would be superior for this task.

I bought the $139 version without 3G as I have marginal 3G reception where I live. The Kindle was easy to set up in the wireless mode and is amazingly quick when downloading a large book. When I first got mine, I downloaded the Bible in far less than a minute. (I should point out that I enjoy studying mythology and in fact comparing religious myths for similarity is a hobby of mine.) The print version of the bible I downloaded is 2080 pages. I actually checked after it downloaded as I was sure that I didn't get the entire download.

The battery has a long life and you I can go for a week without recharging using it 2 to 4 hours a day. If it ever goes bad or you get a new Kindle, you can download the books you have already purchased for free.

The Kindle has lived up to my expectations and then some.

For me the Kindle has worked out great.
