Christian newswire: Of GOP candidates, only Brownback & Hunter understand Terri Schiavo case

Leading Presidential Candidates Debate Terri Schiavo Case

Contact: Steve Kluth, Gibbs Law Firm, P.A., 727-399-8300, 727-408-2213 cell, [email protected]

SEMINOLE, Fla., May 23 /Christian Newswire/ -- Attorney David C. Gibbs III is encouraging the candidates and the public to learn the truth behind Terri's death. Gibbs says, "It's insane that convicted murderers are more protected than innocent disabled people in our nation. That is ludicrous public policy by any standard."

Recently, Republican strategist Rich Galen told USA Today that Congress' intervention in the right-to-die case of Terri Schiavo in 2005 was "a pivot point" for many Republican voters. A majority of voters disapproved of the lawmakers' actions in the case of the brain-damaged Florida woman."

Gibbs disagrees with Galen. Gibbs said, "When given correct information, the vast majority of American people favor protecting innocent life as our founding fathers did. Most Americans do not favor giving death row convicts more due process of law protection than we provide for senior citizens or disabled Americans!"

The leading Republican presidential candidates demonstrated during their initial debate with moderator Chris Matthews that they do not understand the important disability issues involved in the 2005 Terri Schiavo case. Gov. Mitt Romney said he thought it "was a mistake" for Congress to get involved and the matter should have been left at the state level." Sen. John McCain said Congress "probably acted too hastily." Mayor Rudy Giuliani continues to see the matter as merely a "family dispute."

Only Sen. Sam Brownback and Rep. Duncan Hunter, both of whom participated in the Congressional action in 2005, got this issue right, correctly pointing out that all Congress did was to give Terri a chance to appeal her state death sentence to a federal court and reminding Americans of President Ronald Reagan's admonition to always "err on the side of life."

Bobby Schindler explains that his sister's case "was not about someone's 'right-to-die', nor was it an 'end-of-life' issue as was so often reported. Instead, heinous criminals on death row have more protection and are treated with more dignity than people like Terri. Congress saw this and intervened to protect her. Not only was it appropriate for Congress to try and help Terri, but it is what they are morally obligated to do in such cases."

Gibbs explains, "America needs to know what really happened to this lady because Terri's death by dehydration should never have been permitted in a civilized society. These candidates must understand the truth because if elected, they will be making policies that impact all of us."

Attorney Gibbs has released a video giving an insider's perspective to the life and death of Terri Schiavo. This emotional, dynamic presentation can be downloaded at www.fightingfordearlife.com free of charge.

1. In a civilized society she would have been euthanized
I see people die slowly in agony every day. often they beg to be helped to die. the best we can legally do is turn off the tube and up the pain meds (non lethal doses only) and then let them enter a trancelike state. pulling a feeding tube is NOT a painful way to go. the body shuts down all of the hunger pain signals after a few days on its own (right away with the right combination of pain meds).

these nutjobs hurt more than terry schiavo and her husband by "fighting for her life" they hurt thousands of people whose nutjob family members listened to this crap instead of to professionals and kept their relatives on feeding tubes to prolong agony with no chance of any meaningful time let alone chance of recovery.

2. Lovin it. I hope they make their bogus Schiavoganda a big Repub campaign issue.
In my opinion, the Schiavo fiasco was more important
than many of us realize. In the case of my own Neo-fundie
parents, this was the issue that kinda broke the spell
of the koolaid.

They, like even most repubs, OPPOSED Congressional intervention.
It SCARED them to see "Conservative Big Brother" sticking his nose
into such a personal & private matter.

And it actually spurred them to a bit of action- creating living
wills for themselves, so THEY would make that sort of decision
instead of some posturing politician.

I think that one minor moment when they saw the Republiganda
and declared "bullshit" opened the door to more critical thinking
and re-evaluation of OTHER things they had been told.

Seems it got MUCH easier after that to get them to agree on more
basic issues- you know, the things that MOST US citizens disagree with
the Repubs on, but the Repubs just keep pretending they represent
the majority?

The Schiavo issue was a HUGE loser for the Repubs with all but
the most "fundamentally" brainwashed few percent of Americans.

So let's hope those sad few bust their asses to keep reminding everyone
about it.

Americans were given correct information, that's why they don't think like you do.

5. An 8th Day Wonder On The 17th Day...
Yep...those voters sure want to be reminded about the Schaivo circus...the first of many Repugnican mis-steps in recent years that cost them big time. Many of us who had to decide about feeding tubes for our loved ones, signed DNRs and "walked the final mile" with a loved one sure appreciated being put through that ordeal again, and now being reminded about it.

Sounds like the Swindlers are trying to milk whatever money/fame they can out of this long gone story. I can only hope this becomes a major issue in the GOOP primaries and reminds people how Repugnicans favor deciding who lives and who dies.
