Pentagon Study: No Need to Fear the Gays

Not a threat.

There are more details leaking out about the report that is due on Obama's desk by December 1. It apparently reveals that "70 percent of respondents to a survey sent to active-duty and reserve troops over the summer said the effect of repealing the 'don't ask, don't tell' policy would be positive, mixed or nonexistent." Top generals and defense officials have already seen the report, which is 370 pages long and synthesizes the responses of hundreds of thousands of soldiers and their spouses. It also details how to end the ban — which is still in effect, pending possible congressional repeal — without disrupting protocol.

The information was leaked to the Washington Post by someone who was concerned that "groups opposed to ending the ban would mischaracterize the findings."

Sources: Pentagon group finds there is minimal risk to lifting gay ban during war

Why were gays in the military ever an issue in the first place ?

It was also so here in the UK up until about 10 years go - an equal mystery to me.

Following the defeat of a vote in the US Senate to debate ending the US army’s Don’t ask, Don’t tell’ policy, the British army claims that allowing gay and lesbians to openly served has improved the armed forces. http://www.pinknews.co.uk/2010/09/29/british-army-claims-having-openly-gay-soliders-hasincreased-productivity/

3. by the way, appreciate your poppy
I did a fair amount of my growing up at the VFW home in Eaton Rapids, MI. Poppy Day every year was special. I loved the older ones that were paperlike and much prettier... such nostalgia

In Flanders Fields the poppies blow
Between the crosses row on row,
That mark our place; and in the sky
The larks, still bravely singing, fly
Scarce heard amid the guns below.

We are the Dead. Short days ago
We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,
Loved and were loved, and now we lie
In Flanders fields.

Take up our quarrel with the foe:
To you from failing hands we throw
The torch; be yours to hold it high.
If ye break faith with us who die
We shall not sleep, though poppies grow
In Flanders fields.
McCrae
