I am inspired to do a little congressional lobbying project with my fellow DUers. I'll organize it and it should be ready to go by this afternoon. Here is what I need from you. What bills do you personally want passed during the lame duck session?

Inspiration by the Rude Pundit: http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=389x9475471

There is a list of outstanding bills.

I'll get more details out there in a couple of hours. Thanks!!!

1. mine
Tax on Companies that ship jobs overseas- A bill that would have eliminated a tax break that companies get when they ship jobs overseas. Republicans blocked this, allowing companies to keep the tax break they receive when they ship jobs to other countries.

Subpoena Power for the Committee investigating the BP Oil Spill – Give subpoena power to the independent committee responsible for investigating BP’s roll in the oil spill. Republicans attempted to block this.

The Small Business Jobs Act- would give LOCAL, community banks access to billions of dollars to loan to small businesses. Republicans blocked this, then attempted to block it a second time and failed.

The DREAM Act- Gives immigrant youth who were brought here as children a path to citizenship by earning a college degree or serving the military for 2 years. Republicans blocked this.

Repeal of “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell”- Would have repealed the law that forces gay and lesbian services members to lie about their sexuality and gives the military the right to discharge soldiers based on their sexuality. Republicans blocked this.

3. Three things I know the White House wants passed:
1. Defense Bill with DADT repeal.

2. Smart Treaty with Russia.

3. Tax cut extension for -$250K even if some type of deal is required for the +$250k in order to get it.

We will need a couple of Republicans to vote with us on cloture to get anything to a vote. We lost one D for during the lame duck because Kirk from Illinois should get sworn in early. Luckily, we held the rest of the Senate seats that were appointed candidates - NY, CO, WV, DE.

4. Remove cannabis from the federal schedule of controlled substances.
Yeah, I know it's not in the works. But you asked what WE wanted.
