Outstanding post from NY Times: "Pray tell of what socialist tendencies to you speak?"
In response to another comment on "The Day After the Day After" (Op-Ed by Gail Collins) --
Whoever apresicci is, hats off. This is a great post that provides an excellent set of talking points for Democrats at this time.

Here's to #4: "As a conservative Republican, I sort of despise Obama's socialist tendencies."

Pray tell of what socialist tendencies to you speak? Can I then presume that you, as many of those voters a couple of days ago would vote again to reduce or as Newt said, bury Medicare? That you would like to see Social Security privatized or go bye bye. Those are the two socialist programs this country fosters unless you talk about what how we subsidize the corporate structure so they can compete anywhere they wish, no strings attached. And of course our god almighty military.

A socialist or one with those tendencies would not have bailed out the financial institutions and ignore the rank and file--we need jobs, we need infrastructure repairs.

Here's what I want and you can accuse me of socialist tendencies: healthcare--for the simple outrageous fact that our healthcare is for profit; heavily subsidized public transportation--it won't otherwise work and you can pretend we don't need it until it becomes our only choice; energy and there is a litany of reasons in recent memory thank you; and education which was suppose to be democratic but has become a tier system heavily guarded by the principle of hoping to keep the masses unable to discern the damage to themselves of this latest swing to the right.

Do tell me, all you socialist baiting folks, what damage to the well being of our republic you think my proposals engender. Education instead of prisons, improving environmental practices, pro active healthcare. Oops, I guess I'm stepping on the American dream that we can all be millionaires. Stupid me.
