Same for Big Ed, and yes Grayson. Doesnt mean they are just as bad, just that sometimes their rhetoric is over the top. Thats what I think they were going for at the rally on Saturday

And I agree..

1. The question isn't about whether he is right...
Edited on Mon Nov-01-10 01:08 PM by Ozymanithrax
but whether the polarization of our naiton is providing solutions to our problems.

Facts may be intractable, but everybody preaches their own truths. Modern politics isn't about facts but about faith and truths. As long as it is about faith and truths, our problems will not be solved.

2. You are right. He and Grayson are in the same boat and they shouldn't
have been lumpped in with Hannity.

Jon Stewart had some legit points but Stewart did throw the stone and unfortunate he is in a Half glass house. He does emphasis the stupidity of FAUX and candidates getting them angry and they turn up there views and spewing more.

What Stewart did say needed to be said and I'm glad he did.

sorry if I got on a stream of thought that went everywhere.

3. The only thing different between Olbermann and Hannity
.. is that Hannity uses the word "liberal" when he goes off on shrill rants and Olbermann uses the word "conservative".

10. +100,000,000 - Hannity and Beck cannot survive a fact-check. Olbermann can.
And that is a pretty big difference.

Edited on Mon Nov-01-10 01:38 PM by fascisthunter
but you already knew that... try to be honest, it's something KO does and Hannity doesn't.

6. Doesn't sound like you've ever watched Olbermann. He rarely if ever rants about "conservatives."
Edited on Mon Nov-01-10 02:04 PM by DirkGently
That's one key difference: Hannity is one of a range of conservative pundits preaching ideology. That "liberals" and "liberalism" themselves are a problem. KO, who can indeed become shrill, nonetheless focuses his attention on individual persons and their specific ACTIONS.

That's one way he's in a different, vastly more honorable league than Hannity. The other is that Hannity is simply a liar and a coward. It was illustrative watching him chuckle about what a breeze waterboarding torture must be, and then pointedly rejecting an invitation to try it himself, even for charity. And he has seldom missed an opportunity to lie about Democrats or Obama.

9. Well, then there's the difference where Olbermann is telling the truth as opposed to lying...
to people to keep them voting against their own interests.

11. why you cant get away with this on the board, is we are actually informed. we know who lies, and
who does not

you cant make an untruth so righteous. we know better. you can only do that with the fox news watchers that are lied to regularly, and they are ok with it.

12. It is a problem with the "persona" he's created for himself - "neutral cynicism"
It is a trap he ends up falling into now and again. That being said I did enjoy his speech.

15. KO is guilty of one thing
every single night he wants to put out the perfect jeremiad, as though he's rewriting the same movie script over and over until he gets it right. It makes him seem histrionic and without the ability to distinguish large issues from small ones. In short, he wants to be Edward R. Murrow at the pinnacle of his eloquence and righteousness, EVERY SINGLE NIGHT.

And that's why I don't watch him. He's tiresome.

16. I think he actually gets that. The lengthy rant-style Comments have been pared way down.

He hit such a strong note with his early Bush-smashing that I can see the temptation to try to re-create that magic over and over again, and it's possible the network encouraged him to try. Funny as it may sound, I think the "Miss Precious Perfect" skit on SNL reeled him back from the Murrow trip a bit. That, and he may have taken notes on Rachel's more relaxed, even tone. You might want to check him out again at some point.
