Sheriff's deputy tasered frog and painted it with white out because he was bored

The Pinal County Sheriff's Office plans to fight an order that it rehire a deputy fired earlier this year after using a Taser on a frog.

Internal investigation records show Deputy Raul Alvarado, 34, told witnesses he kicked the frog multiple times, painted it with White Out and stunned it with a Taser because he was "bored" at work in August 2009.

Alvarado allegedly said the frog was "taking it like a champ."

The deputy was terminated April 30 after sheriff's investigators determined he lied about the incident, violated codes of conduct, and misused county equipment.

11. Jeebus, Do local, county or states mandate

psychological testing before someone becomes a police officer? Perhaps not a federal mandate except for FBI and such. However, I think it should be made part of the meeting job qualifications. There are too many cops who shouldn't be based on various incidents such as this and much worse.

Does anyone know if their state mandates such testing?

Babeu has attacked President Obama in media interviews, appealed to the public for donations to buy weapons because he claims his dep't. is "outgunned by Mexican drug gangs," appeared on a white power radio program, and was the Sheriff in John McCain's 'Build the Danged Fence' political ad (even though Babeu's Pinal County is NOT on the border).

Oh, yeah, one more thing. Babeu, boss of the frog-torturing "bored" deputy who had nothing better to do, claims he has a crisis--a shortage of manpower--and recently demanded immediate approval to hire new deputies for what amounts to a personal SWAT team to go after immigrant criminals.

(Clarification: "Little Joe" is just my personal term of endearment for the illustrious Sheriff Babeu. :) )

I have to give him credit for firing the frog deputy, and I'm confident he'll resist any pressure to re-hire him.

Still, Babeu is heavily-invested in anti-immigrant GOP politics in Arizona. And the deputy who claimed he was shot from several dozen yards away by "illegal immigrant" drug smugglers out in the desert (though professional M.E.s concluded it was a contact or near-contact wound) is also one of Babeu's boys. The feds are still investigating the incident and have yet to find any evidence supporting the deputy's story. (It's only a hunch, but I think Babeu was directly involved in concocting and staging the incident for his own political purposes.)
