Kucinich Calls For Aid To Palestinian Authority
With the political situation deteriorating, the death toll rising and more rockets taking to the skies above the Gaza Strip, Dennis Kucinich, an Ohio congressman and candidate for the Democratic presidential nomination, has called on the United States government to support restoring international aid to the embattled Palestinian Authority.
"The violence that has gripped Gaza ... is a manifestation of the humanitarian, political and economic crisis that has been brewing in Gaza since international aid to it was suspended in April 2006," argued Kucinich.

"The suspension of aid to the Palestinian Authority may have also helped trigger the factional violence," asserted Kucinich. "Nearly 80,000 Palestinian security forces have been denied their salaries for nearly a year. Many of them have resorted to violence to demand their salaries."
"As a result of the suspension of international aid, the number of Palestinians living in deep poverty, defined as those living on less than 50 cents a day, nearly doubled to more than 1 million people, according to the United Nations Relief Works Agency," said Kucinich.
