Crowds pack Metro during comedians' DC rally (Near 370,000) by 3PM

WASHINGTON — A Metro spokeswoman says ridership was up this weekend because of the rally held by comedians Jon Stewart and Stephen Colbert on the National Mall.

Metro says that by 3 p.m. Saturday some 369,900 people had boarded the system. On a typical Saturday between 325,000 and 350,000 people will use the system.

Metro says it will have final ridership numbers on Monday.

I was there - train after train after train packed tightly. Metro having to hold back crowds at Smithstonian for safety.

1. I biked in from Arlington

but dropped off my rider at the metro in Pentagon city... she said that she aited almost an hour and then a few of them decided to get a ride going in the opposite direction and start farther out... took her close to 2 hours to get over to the Mall

the bike ride was good!
