Baltimore Hands Out First Trans Fat Citation (food facility named Healthy Choice)
Baltimore Hands Out First Trans Fat Citation

BALTIMORE -- The Baltimore City Health Department issued its first environmental citation for repeat violations of the city's trans fat ban.

The Health Department issued Healthy Choice, a food facility in the 400 block of Lexington Street, a $100 fine on Thursday.

"It was the second time they were found with a high trans fat level in their ingredients," said Health Department agent Juan Gutierrez.

Officials said that during inspections in July and this month, the facility was found to be using a margarine product with trans fat levels in excess of what the law allows.

The law banning food facilities from serving or selling non-prepackaged food items containing 0.5 grams or more of trans fats went into effect in September 2009.

1. I feel the same way about this that I feel about drugs, smoking, etc
people ought to be able to choose. If people want to eat garbage, they should be well-within their right to do so.

2. How about when, after a lifetime of eating that shit, they need medicaid
(your tax dollars) to help them pay for their diabetes meds or for the amputations, or the bypass surgery?

8. Who are you to tell me what to do?
I'm against the Morality Police in all it's variations.

Notice that these types never want to stop themselves from doing what they think they shouldn't. They always want to stop YOU from doing what THEY deem wrong.

15. My one rule is: Don't sweat the small shit.
Big shit defined as anything that puts you in immediate danger. The idea of me needing a chill pill would make anyone that knows me be ROFLTAO.

4. How about dirving and the fumes it spews? If we map everything to health care
Then by your logic we should all submit to near total control of our bodies for $$$ - say, do you feel the same about abortion? Or is that a 'your body your choice' issue? People either believe in that principle or they don't.

9. There are all sorts of things that are unhealthy for you.. how about stress?
That's the biggest killer of all, yet I don't see anything in our society geared towards alleviating that in the name of good health.

I understand your point, but I think it's a moot point at the end of the day, given all the things in the world that can kill you, some faster than others.

adulterated factory-food is one thing that could be "cured" though:) We used to have real food...

can't do a lot about the air or the stress, but individually we can have some control over our food:)..for now at least..

a black market commodity.

I'm a firm believer in social reformation through education. Teach people how to eat well, and why that's good for them. The ones who don't eat well never would, anyway.

16. Real butter has some transfats
What a ridiculous law. I'm assuming the use of real butter would be penalised as well.
