So, I just heard that GM is hiring 600 people in Lansing
http://wwj.cbslocal.com/2010/10/28/gm-to-build-new-small-cadillac-in-lansing/
General Motors has announced plans to invest big bucks to build its new Cadillac small car in Lansing. The automaker says it will drop $190 million add 600 jobs and a second shift to produce the vehicle at its Lansing Grand River plant.

a new, an all new, built from the ground up small luxury car for the flagship Cadillac brand,” said GM CEO Dan Akerson.

Akerson said a lot of money will be coming into this region, to the state and into Cadillac showrooms along with this product.

If the Tea Party had had its way, GM would have been liquidated by now -- along with Chrysler.

Everybody in Michigan should be grateful to Obama for saving our bacon and taking the heat for doing it. If you live in Michigan -- or in any other state where GM and Chrysler have plants or dealerships -- a vote for Republican Congressional candidates is a vote directly in opposition to your own economic interests.

Now, I am sure that this post will receive some GM-bashing responses. Am I happy about two-tier wages accepted by the UAW? Nope. Yes, I know GM still makes SUVs and is seen as "evil" by some for that reason. Hey, I am all for fuel efficiency, too.

But, those arguments are arguments about what GM should and should not do. All of that would be academic in a world in which GM does not even exist. And in THAT world, my house would be worthless (not just underwater, as it is now, but WORTHLESS) and my wife and I would probably be unemployed. We might even be on the street. (Neither of us works in the auto industry, but, here in Michigan, the health of the car trade trickles down to everything.)

So, all I can say is THANK YOU, PRESIDENT OBAMA for keeping my state -- and my home town of Detroit -- alive when others would have let them die. I'll never forget it.

:patriot:

3. Thank you Governor Granholm, and Mayor Virg Bernero, too.
Both of whom worked hard w/ the Obama Admininistration and GM to pull this off. This is good news our area desperately needed.

4. GM may have brought its problems upon itself by persisting in outmoded
business models, but at least they did not deliberately undermine the economy the way the banksters did - I'm glad they were spared.
