Retire in France at 62? ....In Turkey, it's 45

SAN FRANCISCO (MarketWatch) — In France, workers took to the streets in angry protest when lawmakers first proposed hiking that country’s retirement age for full pension benefits to 62, from 60, but in many other countries, workers would welcome an age-62 rule. Except Turkey.

In Turkey, the retirement age now is essentially 45 for men and 41 for women, according to a report in October by the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development, a research and policy group with 33 member countries.

Despite women’s longer average lifespan, many countries offer them a younger retirement age. For instance, in the United Kingdom, women’s pension age is 60, compared with men's 65. In the Czech Republic, women can retire at about age 59, versus men’s 61.

---------------------------------------

American workers are looking for 2 and 3 jobs... just for basic necessities.... don't even THINK about retirement.

And for the Cat Food commission.. it STILL is not enough.. they want more. Ahhh.. life in Corporate America.

1. Turkey's having an economic boom, though
One of the few countries with double-digit growth, I believe. Plus, they have a very young population that can pay for the retirement of their elders.

I'm surprised to hear that retirement age is different for women. That's not fair!

2. INACCURATE info there. Retirement with partial payments went 60-62. Full 65-67
"full pension benefits to 62, from 60," is wrong. Full pension went from 65-67. Partial went from 62 from 60. Rather like in the USA.

3. Unless you were able to sock a lot of money away
and not manage to have some crisis that needed your savings or you didn't lose it in one of the market crashes people can't really consider a good retirement anymore.

Why would someone unrec this post? There are people here who want the elderly to work 'til death?
