We should always elect the best & the brightest we can find!

I was listening to Dr. Dean Edel reruns yestrday, and a caller asked what he thought of this years crop of candidates. After a mocking laugh he said he could't believe some of them actually got to be a party nominee. I thought he phrased things right when he said "These people are asked to make decisions about a very wide miriad of subjects, from legal, medical, social, and economic. It doesnt matter to me what party affiliation they are, but every one of the candidates should be the best & th brightest we can find. THEY have the power to change life for each of us, and we're foolish to do any less."

1. The idiots who want to elect people who are "just like me"..

or someone they can have a beer with need to be slapped!
Whenever I hear someone say "I love Sarah Palin...she's a mama grizzly/hockey mom/just like me"...I ask them if they think they're smart enough to make policy on the economy, jobs, taxes, foreign policy, etc. I've never yet hear anyone say yes...they are smart enough.

2. unfortunately "best & brightest" doesn't help

The parties and business have so much control that no individuals have input until they reach the highest seniority. Businesses have a huge part in writing legislation. Then parties push it through. repubs vote no because that's what they are told by their seniors. And it doesn't look like the dems are much different. Look at health reform, financial reform, and the house's climate/energy bills that Reid and Pelosi pushed through. They put in a few earmarks and minor changes to get support, but for the most part it was "vote for this or else" (else the repubs win, else you loose committee position, else you loose support in your next campaign.)

I agree we need the "best & brightest", but we also need to change the system so their input is allowed. There could have been 220 house dems calling for the public option but I don't think it would have made it unless Reid and Pelosi both wanted it.

3. Yeah, I've said all my life that..............

I'm a pretty smart boy and I want somebody SMARTER THAN ME making policy and enacting legislation.

This business of voting for people who are "just like me" is STUPID in the extreme and a quick path to chaos.

4. Elect someone "likeable" to be the puppet put out to placate

the public while the Power Brokers run the country
