Reporter asks Snow: " Why doesn’t the president wear a seatbelt in his pickup?"

http://newsblogs.chicagotribune.com/news_theswamp/2007/05/bush_buckles_up.html

<snip>

Eagle eyes at the president's Texas ranch over the weekend noted a certain absence of seatbelt on the First Pickup Truck Driver -- with President Bush beltless at the wheel of his white Ford F 250.

Why doesn’t the president wear a seatbelt in his pickup? "I didn’t ask him,'' Press Secretary Tony Snow said today.

In the aftermath of an accident in which New Jersey Gov. Jon Corzine suffered massive injuries riding beltless in an SUV driven by his state security detail at a reported 91 mph, Snow was further asked if Bush wears a seatbelt riding in the backseat of the presidential limousine -- which often travels at high rates of speed in a 15-vehicle motorcade.

"I don’t know,'' Snow said. "I have seen him wear it in the limo… I'm not going to give you a report card…. (because ) my ventures in the limo are relatively rare.'' Snow didn't offer much hope of a followup on this question either. "Frankly, the Secret Service will not tell you protocol about anything, for security reasons..''

1. Because that wouldn't make him look all "manly" out there on
the "ranch."

Groan... :eyes:

3. Can I use that as an excuse if I get caught not wearing....
a seatbelt. The president doesn't wear one why should I. Will he get a hefty fine for not wearing one? Actually, I always wear a seatbelt and I do believe everyone should for their own safety.

6. Yep ...
Seat belt laws are for public roadways only.

On your own property, you can do whatever the fuck you want.

Cheers

15. The question on whether he wears a seat belt while in the...
presidential limo driving in a motorcade was asked and Tony Snow said I don't know. My bet is on no he doesn't.

his thick skull through the windshield, so be it. Who's to question his obviously superior judgment?

As for setting an example for mere mortals, you've got to be kidding.

9. I'd bet he travels less by auto or truck than any President in the last 50 years
I suspect the White House secuity people figure that there's not enough security in the world to keep his ass safe if he spent much time out on the public roads.

He travels by plane or copter, but just very short jaunts by limo. Airport to speech and back to the airport.

in the sun? Does he use sunscreen? How often does he get his teeth cleaned? Burning questions. :sarcasm:

20. Frankly I'm glad he doesn't wear one.
I hope he never wears one. That way if he is involved in an accident there is a better chance of, well, you know...

And I hope he keeps eating pretzels too. A lot of them!

Edited on Tue May-22-07 11:19 AM by LynnTheDem
Why does George W. bUsh believe it's ok for him to continue to do what the Nuremburg Tribunal deemed "the supreme crime" war of aggression, bush's being against the citizens of Iraq, when the Hitler regime was hanged for the very same crime?
