19. That's news to me. I know he's a Libertarian, but there are Libertarians
who are socially liberal, and I believe that he is socially liberal, a moderate on some economic issues.

How do you figure that he's not a liberal?

12. If I recall correctly
polls indicated that Dewey was so far ahead that the pollsters didn't bother to check in with the voters the last few weeks of the campaign.

13. So that differs from today, no?
They are checking with voters daily these days.

14. I think they learned from '48
and that's why it is never assumed that anyone is so far ahead they can't lose.

15. How did they even poll back then?
Door to door? I'd imagine most didn't have phones in '48.

16. As I recall the story of the Gallup f-up in 1948, they made
the mistake of apportioning the 'undecided' votes evenly between Dewey and Truman.

That was a fatal mistake because most of the undecideds went for Truman.

18. Yep. Jon Stewart has conceded defeat recently. Even Rachel Maddow last night

said something to the fact that it's going to be a "blood bath" on November 2.

How do these so-called pundits know this?

Look at all the evidence of momentum shifting to the Democrats. House races that were counted as losses for the Democrats are now toss-ups or shifting in the Democrats' direction. Same with major House races and gubernatorial races.

And yet, it's "doom and gloom" on our side.

4. Give up. Stay home. Protect yourself with plastic sheeting and duct tape.
News flash: Bill Maher is not a Democrat or a liberal or a progressive. He's most probably a libertarian.

5. So what? Has there never before been a time in history when a party regained control of Congress?
I mean, big deal. Even without the tea baggers and their movement, it wouldn't be unheard of for the Republicans to gain some power somewhere.

21. It's one thing to assert that the Dems will lose some seats. That's conventional wisdom, right?
Edited on Sat Oct-23-10 08:52 AM by Liberal_Stalwart71
The party in control always losses seats in midterm elections. It's quite another to assert that an entire chamber of Congress will be lost.

And yes, it IS a big deal. Maybe not to you, but it is to a lot of people who care for this country.
