50% of Americans will have a reported mental disorder
By Geri McGhee 10/15/2010 09:25:00
Font size:
It is estimated that up to 50-percent of Americans will have a reported mental disorder in their lifetime, and many more have problems that go unreported.

The Department of Health & Human Services says, "Mental health problems affect one in every five young people at any given time."

I believe if the truth were known, it is probably more than that. Having some type of a mental disorder is a serious problem that plagues our society and the Church today; in society, for obvious reasons, and in the Church because repentance, for the most part, is not taught.

Mental illness comes into a person's life through disobedience to the Voice of God and His Commandments either through the generational iniquities of the forefathers and/or through parents not bringing their children up in the discipline and instruction of the Lord.

Isaiah 1:2-8 confirms this, where God says, "Listen, O heavens, and hear, O earth; for the Lord speaks, "Sons I have reared and brought up, But they have revolted against Me. Alas, sinful nation, people weighed down with iniquity, offspring of evildoers, sons who act corruptly! They have abandoned the Lord. They have despised the Holy One of Israel. They have turned away from Him. Where will you be stricken again, as you continue in your rebellion? The whole head is sick (speaks not of a sick man but of one flogged in the head), and the whole heart is faint. From the sole of the foot even to the head there is nothing sound in it, only bruises, welts, and raw wounds, not pressed out or bandaged, nor softened
with oil. Your land is desolate, your cities are burned with fire, it is desolation, as overthrown by strangers and the daughter of Zion is left like a shelter in a vineyard, like a watchman's hut in a cucumber field, like a besieged city."

To besiege means: to surround with hostile forces or troops i.e. the powers of darkness. It means to crowd around or hem in, to harass or importune, as with requests (voices), to cause to feel distressed or worried, to attack from all sides, to assail assault or set upon.

The Scripture in Romans 1 warns us of the consequences of exchanging the truth of God for a lie and worshipping the creature rather than the Creator.

In verse 28, it states, "And just as they did not see fit to acknowledge God any longer, God gave them over to a depraved (reprobate) mind, to do those things which are not proper. Could this possibly one of the causes of Alzheimer's? Children who do not grow up with parental discipline do not feel loved and hate themselves. People who hate themselves and who do not feel good about themselves have low serotonin levels and have addictive types of personalities.

Proverbs 15:32 says, "He who neglects discipline despises (hates, loathes, abhors) himself."

Proverbs 13:24 says, "He who spares his rod hates his son, but he who loves him disciplines him diligently" and Proverbs 22:15 says, "Foolishness (folly) is bound up in the heart of a child; the rod of discipline will remove it far from him."

There are many positive sides of discipline: love, care, nurture, fellowship, communication, protection, guidance, teaching, training, provision, affection, hugs, kisses, encouragement, comfort, forgiveness, patience, affirmation, encouragement, etc. The only negative side of discipline is the rod if a child does not listen.

A parent's failure to discipline their children often leads them to bemoan the monsters they have created. The Good News is that when parents cease enabling, and they and their children line up with the Word of God, God restores the years the locusts have eaten and healing comes.

The world gives a person no hope for the healing of mental illness. Some years back, I had a woman come to me from another state for deliverance.

She said, "My psychiatrist said I can never be healed of my mental illness." I answered her, "Your psychiatrist is right. If you continue looking to him and the world for answers, you will never be healed. But if you look to Jesus, the Great Physician, and meet His conditions, He will heal you." The condition is in a person aligning himself with the Word of God through repentance.

God tells us in Colossians 2:8,9: "See to it that no one takes you captive through philosophy and empty deception, according to the tradition of men, according to the elementary principles of the world, rather than according to Christ."

The world and psychology teach doctrines of demons. Psychology can actually cause a person to be brought into greater bondage. This is always compounded by the mind altering drugs that are prescribed which keeps a person in a drunken state and can cause them to fall away from the faith.

1Timothy 4:1 says, "But the Spirit explicitly says that in later times some will fall away from the faith, paying attention to deceitful spirits and doctrines of demons." 1Thessalonians 5:6 says, "So then let us not sleep as others do, but let us be alert and sober."

Jesus said in Matthew 12:30 "He who does not gather (to bring parts together) with Me scatters..." (To cause to separate and go in different directions).

Notice the whole subject of Matthew 12:22-30 is deliverance. Sin opens a person up to demons that cause them to be scattered.

One of the curses listed in Deuteronomy 28:25 is, "The Lord will cause you to be defeated before your enemies; you shall go out one way against them, but you shall flee seven ways before them, and you shall be an example of terror to all the kingdoms of the earth."

The world calls this mental condition in its' compounded state, MPD (multiple personality disorder) or more recently has defined it as DID (disassociate identity disorder).

God promises that through repentance and alignment with the Word of God, He will gather us from all the places where we have been scattered.
The world calls it a societal problem but the Bible makes it clear that mental illness is a curse.

Deuteronomy 28:34 says, "And you shall be driven mad by the sight of what you see." Deuteronomy 28:28 says, "The Lord will smite you with madness and with blindness and with bewilderment of heart."

The dictionary defines mad and madness as suffering from a disorder of the mind. It means to be temporarily or apparently deranged by violent sensations, emotions, or ideas.

A person who is mad or has madness is lacking in restraint or reason; marked by extreme excitement, confusion, or agitation; frantic, crazy or deranged. It is the quality or condition of being insane.

Mad and madness means to have mental disorders impairing the capacity to function adequately: mental illness, alienation, dementia, lunacy, mania, irrational, obsessive behavior, monomania, compulsiveness, fanaticism, psychosis, psychotic, delusional, hallucinatory, psychoneurotic, schizoid, schizophrenic, unthinking, fallacious, illogical, unreasonable, unsound, clouded, cloudy, muddled, disturbed, unbalanced, neurotic, touched, sick, unhinged, unstable, paranoid, paranoiac, raving, nutty, loopy, batty, daft, hydrophobic, rabid and foaming. Proverbs 26:2 says, "Like a sparrow in its flitting, like a swallow in its flying, so a curse without cause does not alight."

The spiritual root to mental illness without exception is rebellion, which is violating the Word of God and His Commandments. God gives us His solution to mental illness.

It is found in Romans 12:1-2, where it says, I urge you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies a living and holy sacrifice, acceptable to God, which is your spiritual service of worship. And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind."

In other words, submit your life to God, renew your mind with the Word of God and enter into the process of aligning your life with the Word of God.
1 Peter 2:24 says "And He Himself bore our sins in His body on the cross, that we might (1) Die to sin and (2) Live to righteousness (3) For by His wounds you were healed."

You fucking medieval ignoramus, illness has physical causes and has nothing to do with your bronze age god! That ought to be clear to anyone who has been paying attention even a little over the past 500 years or so.

Mentally ill people have a hard enough time without religious nut case forcing their idiot views on us. Sadly, the magical approach still survives in addiction treatment.

17. Are you fucking kidding me?
Considering what my psychiatrist charges me, I'm surprised she can stay in business. She had the regular M.D. education--itself a guelling process and hude expense--then the psych specialty. And if you mean the drugs, all I can say is I am never going back to the way I was.

Did you write this here because you think that lunatic is right? It's all because our souls are defective? We need to pray to an imaginary friend some more?

If a person believes that a text applies to all situations, without the context of society at that time. And believe the only way God speaks to the world is through a text, and only that text.

Then they have claimed God stopped speaking to people when those texts were finished.

God, and as you state, worse spirits, speak to people in the interpretations of text. However saying that text is the only way God shows his wonders is to say God stopped speaking in the world years ago. I believe God speaks through millions of people every day, and through wonders of all parts of nature, and things created by people inspired by the better spirit of God.

On a side note, I do believe confusion is a method of straitening out some people, although it can also be an effect of the process of straightening out some conflicting thoughts. I have also seen confusion used to take free will for another persons purpose, so there are many ways some can be confused. However I agree that with the concepts of a loving kind God, it is easy to avoid confusion.

Anyone can quote a verse. Although I do agree that some of the confusions are caused by contradictions that are spiritual, but not all of them.

Luke 20:45While all the people were listening, Jesus said to his disciples, 46"Beware of the teachers of the law. They like to walk around in flowing robes and love to be greeted in the marketplaces and have the most important seats in the synagogues and the places of honor at banquets. 47They devour widows' houses and for a show make lengthy prayers. Such men will be punished most severely."

I like this verse.

Psalm 23
A psalm of David.
1 The LORD is my shepherd, I shall not be in want.

2 He makes me lie down in green pastures,
he leads me beside quiet waters,

3 he restores my soul.
He guides me in paths of righteousness
for his name's sake.

4 Even though I walk
through the valley of the shadow of death,
I will fear no evil,
for you are with me;
your rod and your staff,
they comfort me.

5 You prepare a table before me
in the presence of my enemies.
You anoint my head with oil;
my cup overflows.

6 Surely goodness and love will follow me
all the days of my life,
and I will dwell in the house of the LORD
forever.

And I am still due money for beer and travel and many experiences. I believe his wonders are all around us, no matter where we are. And find as many of his wonders in places like parks, music houses, and bars as more traditional places.

John 21:25 Jesus did many other things as well. If every one of them were written down, I suppose that even the whole world would not have room for the books that would be written.

Side side note, also why I think it is important to show many things are not just for show, but also, in my view, for spreading the concepts of love and ideas of the better spirit as each understand them. Although some might think differently on that topic.

150 years ago, someone writing an article like this probably would have insisted that the mentally ill were posessed by devils. :evilfrown:

Reality of course is that the human brain is an organic computer. I happen to be related to the Guy who designed the thing, so I know how it works. I also know what can go wrong with it, and the cause is not demons running around inside or a question of what one believes in, but a matter of brain chemistry.

47. so do I-this comment by the author was particularly telling

It's all the parents' and childrens' fault.deal with it.

53. that's a tough one
is it "right work" to make it possible for adults to hear this sort of bullshit that they will then foist upon their children

or

is it possible that your presence would be a positive thing for all concerned?

I also have a child who is high-functioning autistic and, before he was dx'd, was told all sorts of things I was doing wrong - and that was the point at which I decided that I was no longer going to be nice to the religious right or the self-righteous wrong.

48. Tell me again how when a non-believer points out this nonsense we are being "intolerant"?

55. the political class in the U.S. doesn't care
they don't care if this nation remains mired in stupidity and will support all sorts of religious bullshit if it gets them some votes. you see this most profoundly with the Republicans but it also exists among the Democrats.

people here who rail about those of us who speak against fundamentalist and literalist religion don't give a fuck about the truth or people's ultimate well being either - they just don't want to offend potential voters.

then, of course, to keep those voters we're supposed to shut up about evolution next...

52. Go to hell, you religious freak.
Now I am no expert on mental illness. I am pretty sure that most of the time it has an organic cause. Sometimes it's the circumstances of a person's life, how they grew up, what happened to them, etc. Other times, it's brain chemistry gone awry. In any case, it is NEVER "rebellion" or whatever. Sure, let's just repress everyone's normal urges and see what kind of mental health we will all have then, shall we?

54. mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmkay
I don't believe in that particular god, or well, any of the gods. I suppose it's punishment for not believing, eh?

I think those who believe in any and all bibblical references as the direct word of the lord, without all those middlemen, are the ones who need to be locked into mental institutions, and the rest freed to take those extremists jobs, lives and everything else. It would certainly improve the health of all of us, and would certainly help out our country as well, without all those creationists and far right tea partiers to mess it all up.

;)
