If you never had chiggers, imagine mosquito bites on crack. Chiggers are hideous little crawling insects that bite and leave the itchiest bump known to man, with the possible exception of poison ivy.

They hang out in grass and weeds. They crawl through your clothes and burrow into your skin in "tight" places -- bend of the knee, where your socks cling to your ankles, along the elastic of your undies, etc. This time of year, they are out in the millions. And these photo-op assholes are about to be treated to two weeks of living hell.

My concern for the environment which began when I was a pre-teen, started with the realization that all the birds, flowers, butterflies and animals I loved watching and photographing were in danger from the impact of what we do? Why do all these Republicans who seem to own these lovely wooded areas and ranches, have so little appreciationg for them?
