Robert Kennedy Jr. Endorses Charlie Crist Over Kendrick Meek
Source: AP (via HuffPo)

DEERFIELD BEACH, Fla. — A member of the Kennedy clan said Wednesday that Democratic Congressman Kendrick Meek cannot win the Florida Senate race and instead endorsed independent Gov. Charlie Crist.

Robert F. Kennedy Jr. said Crist has a better shot than Meek at beating tea party-backed Republican Marco Rubio, who has a big lead in recent polls.

Kennedy called the Florida Senate race the most critical in the country and urged voters to combat what he calls the radical tea party movement by voting for Crist.

Rubio "has a very radical vision, a very narrow vision, an I-can-be-as-stupid-as-I-want vision of this country, and that has a little bit of appeal to people when they're angry – but it is not a good long-term plan," Kennedy told dozens of people gathered at a South Florida diner for a Crist campaign event.

12. Crist is Independent in more than just words.
I have always thought Crist should become an independent. Even when he first took office, I didn't think he fit the profile of a real Republican. He actually made some decisions that I supported (Jeb Bush did not make any I could support). I think he was a Republican more in name only.

27. Are you sure he's not just doing what the DNC wants him to do?
AFAIK, he's a loyal Democratic Party man, through and through, like his great grandparents, his grandparents, his parents, his and his uncles and aunts.

He lives in NY. Is he endorsing a Senatorial hopeful in every state? If not, why reach out to Florida--to endorse a Republican, no less?

Maybe, just maybe, his Party asked him to? No one in office can do it. Outside of officeholders, he has one of the best known, most beloved names in the Party. Meek's looking like a sure loser--maybe he did from the jump--and no one wants Rubio.

29. Nope. DU made Crist an exception to its rules early on.
And the DNC originally wasn't going to give Meek any money--nothing personal--just "finite resources." Then, I think, it had a change of heart. See also Reply #27.

32. Wrong
DU is still working on a Crist policy.

As for me, I have a policy of "NO elephants" elephants being of course republicans like Crist. No Crist. But that's just me.

Meek deserves all of our support. ALL.

5. So If agreed with Kennedy as a
matter of pragmatic choice ( and that is not to take away from Meeks as the ultimately better candidate), would that get me kicked off, because I do agree with Kennedy.

9. What does this say about Florida voters ?
Alaska,Delaware,Nevada,Connecticut,S.Carolina (Greene) N.Y., Colorado, also come to mind....how did these people get this far ? Does this mean that a larges portion of this country would rather go down in flames rather than to let a Black man govern?

8. Hate to say it but ....
I've been wondering about this myself. Being a Floridian I've got to vote soon. I like Meeks for the job but I wonder if his withdrawing and throwing his support behind Crist won't serve us better. Should I vote for the candidate I want even if he has less chance of winning or move to my second choice. Either would be better than the Republican candidate. I just hate to see people who feel like I do split our votes between the two and have the other choice walk through the door.

24. It's better to lose with integrity
Than win with compromise!

Better yet, DON'T LOSE! Work your keester off, door-to-door! Make sure your neighbors understand what social and economic justice means!

Make sure the seasoned citizens understand that the RW wants to go to the casino with their pensions!

Make sure everyone understands the importance of minority rights, and of free publically financed medical care!

Make sure they understand how the progression to socialism and the end of private control over land and economic resources affects them by narrowing the income gap and spreading the wealth wide!

Make sure that they understand the indy "DINO RINO" is not better, that they need a TRUE progressive, or as close as they can get!

And if Teabagger DOES still win, oppose him in every way for 4 years, then try again!

14. So does this
Governor Charlie Crist addressed the crowd about the importance of tourism to the states economy. When talking with reporters beforehand, he was asked about issues he would face not as governor, but as a Senator. The independent Senate candidate believes that all of the Bush tax cuts should be extended rather than expire at the end of the year.

"I think it's very important to reduce tax burden on Florida families, small businesses. Give them an opportunity to have more money in their pocket so they can hire more people and provide more jobs," said Crist.

13. It's a three way race
..there's no room for a good outcome from our perspective. Someone has to quit and it won't be the teabagger. If Meeks quits, Crist would have a chance to send the teabagger packing.

21. That's just plain stupid, RFK
Meek is a real good, liberal Democrat. Not supporting him is just plain stupid.

Rubio is nothing. But it looks like his candidacy is backhandedly destroying the party in Florida, eh?

This is all just so stupid. Meek is our candidate.
