The National Republican Senatorial Committee is committing an additional $1.8 million to Carly Fiorina's bid to unseat Democrat Sen. Barbara Boxer, according to two Republican sources.

This will bring the committee to $4.8 million invested which is the total amount allowed by federal election law in a coordinated campaign.

In the latest CNN/Time/Opinion Research Poll of likely voters, 52 percent of respondents said they would back Boxer and 43 percent said they would back Fiorina. The survey had a sampling error of 2.5 percentage points. But a more recent Reuters poll conducted October 2-5 shows Boxer with just a four-point advantage over Fiorina.
