McAdams boasts of $870 K fundraising haul

Democrat Scott McAdams is boasting he raised more money than both of his opponents, and that he continues to bring in thousands of dollars in the final weeks of the Alaska Senate race. The McAdams campaign raised $685,000 in the period between the Aug. 24 primary and the Sept. 30 fundraising deadline, the campaign said Wednesday evening. Since the deadline, they've brought in an additional $185,000, said spokeswoman Heather Handyside.

Official fundraising numbers aren't in yet – the campaigns aren't required to turn them in until tomorrow at midnight. Sen. Lisa Murkowski, who had more than $1 million in her campaign account following the primary, started with an advantage as she launched her write-in bid. Murkowksi raised $306,378 between the primary and Sept. 30, her campaign said Thursday. She had about $1.1 million remaining in the bank

Both Miller and McAdams have proved aggressive fundraisers since the primary. McAdams, who started with almost nothing, raised $870,000, his campaign said. And Miller pulled in an estimated $450,000 online, according to his campaign.

Separate from the three campaigns, outside independent expenditure groups are playing a major role in the Alaska Senate race -- and those across the country. So far in Alaska, they've contributed $1.4 million to the race. Most of the money goes toward television advertising. And in Alaska, it's all gone toward Miller and Murkowski -- McAdams so far hasn't so received any support from those outside groups. (They haven't targeted him with opposition ads, either.)

Miller continues to implode: http://www.adn.com/2010/10/13/1500580/borough-mayor-calls-miller-dishonest.html

Republican Senate candidate Joe Miller used borough computers in Fairbanks for partisan political purposes in 2008 when he organized the failed effort to oust state GOP chairman Randy Ruedrich from his post, the borough mayor who supervised Miller said Wednesday.

Jim Whitaker, the mayor of the Fairbanks North Star Borough when Miller was the borough's part-time attorney, said Miller was disciplined in writing for violating the borough's ethics policy.

Whitaker said he decided to speak out publicly now after Miller vowed this week to not answer questions about his past. Miller told reporters he has been the victim of "lies and innuendos" after questions were raised about his work history with the borough.

"Statements that Mr. Miller made on Monday led me to believe he was not going to be forthcoming. And I felt that the statements he made were less than honest," Whitaker said in an interview Wednesday. "This entire event happened on my watch. I know what the truth is and I felt obligated to tell the truth."

Scott's a great candidate. I'm feeling hopeful about this. I don't think Lisa will be able to overcome the hurdles to winning a write-in camapaign.

3. I suspect this one is going to be a squeeker and both Murkowski and Miller
will be heading to the courts even before the polls close..It may take months for Alaska to seat their US Senator..

6. I really like him, too.
The more I see of him, the more I'm impressed. I can't imagine why any Democrat or left-leaning independent would even think of voting for Lisa, given her voting record, especially in the past two years. I call her Mitch McConnell's lapdog.
