(Chilean) Miners argue over who's out last
I didn't realize the "hole" was not vertical!!

"If this had been a vertical hole we probably could have done it in half the time," said Fisher.

1. Bust through vertically and chance killing them with falling rock
That's what took all the time, making sure they weren't pushing the ceiling of the chamber down on their heads.

Personally, I think the guy who's got the wife and girlfriend slugging it out needs to be last because that's when the celebration will start and it will be less likely he'll be clobbered.

In any case, it doesn't sound like any kind of a trip I'd like to take.

4. does the last one out get the book deal?
why argue?

I would suggest rock paper scissors but if I were a miner stuck in a hole for weeks I know I would never pick rock again.

I'm just glad things turned out as well as they did. It could have been much worse.

5. Was the mistake made of TELLING them the weakest would go FIRST?!1
It's more than "solidarity" going on!1 Actually, the topside Chileans were backtracking, saying that thinking had changed, that the STRONGEST and most knowledgeable about the structure of the pit would now go first to provide intel on what's down there. Yaas, THAT's the ticket!1

... The Post reports today that while waiting for trapped miner Yonni Barrios, his wife Marta Salinas made an unpleasant discovery: Barrios's mistress, Susanna Valanzuela, was also hanging around the mine site waiting to see her man, the same man, surface. "This woman has no legitimacy!" hissed Salinas. "We are in love!" replied Valenzuela. "I'll wait for him!"...
