HOUSTON -- Fourteen Houston Independent School District schools received envelopes that contained a suspicious powder on Friday.
Hazmat crews were called and preliminary tests concluded that the powder was not dangerous.
The envelopes were delivered to the following schools, according to district officials.

•Almeda Elementary, 14249 Bridgeport Road
•Anderson Elementary, 5727 Ludington Drive
•Asford Elmentary, 1815 Shannon Valley Drive
•Attucks Middle, 4330 Bellfort St.
•Barrick Elementary, 12001 Winfrey Lane
•Bastian Elementary, 5051 Bellfort St.
•Bellaire High School, 5100 Maple St.
•Black Middle, 1575 Chantilly Lane
•Blackshear Elementary, 2900 Holman St.
•Briarmeadow Elementary, 3601 Dunvale Road
•Browning Elementary, 607 Northwood St.
•Burbank Middle, 315 Berry Rd.
•Fonville Middle, 725 E. Little York Road
"We initially had two schools reporting between 2 and 3 o'clock that they had a letter delivered to the school through the mail that had a white powder substance inside. They alerted the schools and called 911," said Norm Uhl, a district spokesman.
