October 7, 2010- One day since the Center For American Progress broke the story that not only is the US Chamber of Commerce funneling tens of millions of dollars into attack ads against Democrats, but has been receiving money from foreign corporations, and about 150 protestors are outside their headquarters in Washington DC. These people were not bussed in- The protest was arranged with less than 24 hours notice- They came from their offices on their lunch breaks to voice their disapproval of the Chamber’s meddling in politics.
“The Chamber is accepting money from foreign nationals and foreign corporations into the exactly same bank account that pays for these political attack ads.” said Elise Hogan, one of the protest organizers. “What you have is a corporate front group that’s dumping unprecedented amounts of money to buy our election at the same time as it’s lobbying for American jobs to be shipped overseas, and it enjoys this reputation of being pro-American worker, when nothing could be further from the truth.” This issue has not been testing well with the Tea Party either: “What we’re seeing is that actually this issue of corporate influence in our democracy is not a left or right one, it’s in fact one that’s right or wrong.”
