A British woman who dyed her cat pink ‘to match her own hair’ will be getting her cat back but not before she gets a dressing down from the RSPCA, according to the UK Press Association.

Natasha Gregory of Swindown said she got the idea to dye her cat pink after watching a US TV show where people did similar things to dogs. Pink is apparently Gregory’s favorite color so using food coloring on her naturally white cat Oi! Kitty to change its color seemed a good idea to her, she told the press. She said that she didn’t think the food coloring would be harmful to her kitty after reading the product label.

Oi! Kitty ended up in the RSPCA by a concerned man who found the pink cat in his backyard. While it may not be harmful, the dye is not coming out easily. RSPCA officers washed Oi! Kitty and its pink color has only faded a bit.

The BBC reports that Gregory called the the Sun Newspaper after the story broke to tell her side of the story. She reportedly said she was annoyed that people would consider her an evil animal dumper. She emphasized that she loves her cat and didn’t harm her. Care was taken to ensure the coloring did not get into her eyes or mouth.

2. I don't see food coloring being anything to get worked up about.

As long as the food coloring isn't toxic to the cat, what's the big deal? It may be tasteless, but I'm sure flea treatments are far worse from a chemical standpoint.

6. Ok, I totally do not get dying your pets, but if this wasn't
harmful to the cat, then what is this about? Really? There are enough unwanted pets out there that they could focus on. If this was harmful to the cat, then yeah, I get it. But it seems it wasn't. So, for me this is a wtf moment.

7. Why is it "will be"? The RSPCA has no business keeping the cat any longer
than it takes to deliver it back to the owner, and they should keep their 'dressing down' to themselves. If she didn't harm the cat then she didn't harm it, and her bizarre peccadilloes are nobody's business but her own...

If it is not harmful, why does it have to come out?

11. I'm firmly in the camp of animal rights,
and even I'm not seeing an issue with food-color-dyeing your kitty.

12. Same here.... my only concern is safety, so if she is using food grade dye,
I see no problem. Especially since she survived the process. LOL

People groom dogs (mostly) and cats into insane haircuts. I don't see a dye job as much different as long as it is safe for the pet.
