Among the 450 workers left Thursday at American Airlines’ overhaul base in Kansas City were (from left) Ron Harp, Gordon Clark and M.E. Johnson. The facility, which once employed some 6,000 people, is closing today.

Soaring in the early 1970s, the aircraft overhaul base at Kansas City International Airport employed nearly 6,000 people.

Certainly Tulsa can't absorb all the KC workers. How very sad.
