New poll shows Alex Sink with 7-point lead in (FL) governor's race

TALLAHASSEE – Entering the stretch run of their hotly contested gubernatorial showdown, Democrat Alex Sink is enjoying a slight edge over Republican Rick Scott thanks to the lingering bad taste left with voters over his bloody, $70-million Republican primary.

A Mason-Dixon poll released Thursday that was commissioned by the Orlando Sentinel/Sun Sentinel and other media outlets found Sink, a former banking executive and current Florida chief financial officer, with a 47-percent to 40-percent lead over Scott, a former health-care CEO and investor from Naples. But Sink's 7-percent lead in the poll is hardly insurmountable – 11 percent of voters remain undecided.

The survey of 625 likely voters, which has a margin for error of plus-or-minus 4 percentage points, found that Sink can credit her advantage to those always-crucial independent voters, among whom she led 44-percent to 37-percent in the survey.

Scott emerged from a blistering GOP primary that saw him use $50 million of his own money to attack Republican Bill McCollum as a "political insider" and deflect accusations that he was complicit while his former hospital company, Columbia/HCA, defrauded the government out of billions of dollars in Medicare fees in the 1990s and was subsequently fined $1.7 billion in penalties.

The GOP is running smear ads against her and they are a joke. She needs to keep up with her "what I'm going to do for FL" type ads and keep on that Scott is running is against Obama. heh

2. Good for Alex!
Now, she should turn Rod Smith loose on Scott. He's the prosecutor who fried Ted Bundy. I'm sure he could build a hell of a case against Scott in the media.

Just for the record, I'm almost universally opposed to the death penalty. But, I can make an exception in Bundy's case.

3. I laughed the first time I saw Scott's new ad with his mom as the star.
"He's a good boy!"

Helluva campaign slogan, Scottie.
