We are breaking up after such a long time....
Edited on Sun Sep-19-10 06:14 PM by Omaha Steve

Marta and I.... were the tenth customers on @home in Omaha. Thirteen years. We have the old numbered modem somewhere to prove it. We have pamphlets etc. in storage too. We even bought stock in it during the tech craze late 90's. In the last year my home page on Excite has been slowly dying. The last two weeks show me there isn't much time left. Like my devotion to my first PC (Coleco Adam), Excite and I are old friends. It isn't easy watching an old trusted friend disappear. Does anyone else remember or use Excite?

1. A little, I remember the Adam more - brings back a LOT of memories
And I did not even own one :) Went to showing of it at a school with my dad. We had a trs-80. The adam, much like the Amiga later on, seemed ahead of it's time.

2. I Wish I Had My Old Apple II ...
...It would be great to fire it up and play some Ultima IV. Of course, my kids would be horrified by the unholy sounds generated by a 5 1/4" disc drive.

3. There is no need to fear, TSS is here:
Get an emulator for free (one of many sites) for the Apple 2 (I had the C):

http://www.zophar.net/apple2.html

You can also get an emulator for the trs-80, pet, commodore, etc :)

Relive the old days, without having to leave the new ones....

9. I still have my Adam...complete with
cassettes, the instruction manuals, and the printer.

Wonder what it's worth?

5. We had an Amiga and Pipeline was our first service provider, then @home
Ka-boing-ka-boing. That was a happy sound. It predated being on the dial up bulletin boards.

6. The Amiga is still alive (used to own one, loved it): Commodore To Ship AMIGA-Branded All-In-One PCs

Commodore To Ship AMIGA-Branded All-In-One PCs
Monday, September 06, 2010 - by Ray Willington
There's no question that few people will ever buy one of these, but just because it's a niche product line doesn't mean that we can't smile about it. Those who have been following consumer electronics for decades now may remember Commodore USA, mostly from the video game sector. But now, Commodore is coming back in a big way. In one week, we've heard about the revival of both Duke Nukem Forever and Commodore USA. Is the world ending? Have we hit our heads? Is it April 1st somewhere?

Commodore USA has just acquired the rights to re-use the AMIGA branding, and they're planning to do so on all-in-one keyboard computers. These machines will reportedly run AROS, which is an open source version of AmigaOS 3.1. That alone will almost ensure that not too many people spring for one of these, but who knows if they can be hacked to run Mac OS X, Windows 7 or anything else for that matter.

An AMIGA PC? Come to daddy! Now we just need a price and ship date.

11. We gave ours to a rancher for his kids
That helps us not feel badly about giving it up. We know they got a lot of use out of it.

A new Amiga PC? Hmmmm.... That sounds tempting!

7. Yeah, I remember them well
They had voice chat in the early Noughties and it was international, so it was fun hearing the accents attached to the words on the screen.

I hate to see them wither and die, too. RIP, Excite.

8. OMG I still use excite as my home page.
It does have less and less as time goes by, but all the birthdays are in there to pop up as a reminder.
I too started with @home as soon as it came to town...lol I think the people on the phone and I were on a first name basis due to all the outages when it got going.

10. I had used excite as my first email addy...
After that fuckhead boosh stole the election, the place was overrun with freeper trolls big time.
When my mailbox was constantly spammed with repuKKKe junk mail, I complained.
But they did nothing about that... so I got back at them and never went back to "UN"excite.com

12. I did too.
They never did anything about any complaints. When they changed the e-mail feature I moved on to gmail and never looked back.
