D for Drive, as in forward.
Edited on Wed Sep-15-10 01:33 PM by Qutzupalotl
R for reverse. That's what the logo is about.

The keychain idea didn't make sense without the new logo, but now it does.

And frankly, I never much liked the donkey.

The new site needs some fine tuning. I see calls to action but not yet a reason to act. They need some motivational aspect, whether it's hope or fear; but the basic framework is fine.

1. If that's the case, the slogan should spell it out.
But it doesn't.

18. Agreed. The tag line should be
"Moving America Forward" instead of "Change That Matters."

2. When a logo needs
explanations it doesn't work. It should be obvious, the first thing that comes to mind when seeing it is a target.
I hope they didn't actually pay someone for this.

4. Targets are usually red
and have at least one more layer of circles and a center fill. You could argue that the inside and outside of the lines count, but I really don't see it as a target.

6. Exactly!
It's got the circle and everything. :)

The slogan is pretty good, and it's where we need to be: for this cycle at least, we need to be about continuing forward progress.

9. Actually the circle has an automotive meaning
It means the drive selection contains an overdrive gear.

Furthermore, I drive a manual, so I have an "R" but no "D."

8. It's both.
Good branding makes use of positive connotations, whether they're spelled out or not.

I drive a stick as well, and hadn't even thought of that.

We can't use "Top Gear" either or there will be lawsuits.

26. They need to change the tag line
to "Moving America Forward". Then people would get it.

I'm glad they're getting rid of or downplaying the donkey. That's a symbol of resistance to change.

I guess that would be Dr. Dean. I'd like to see him come back, stammer and all. His strategy was very good.

Could be that he's not well suited to this position. Or perhaps Dr. Dean's tenure has given me different expectations about what the position should entail.
