I'm so proud of my husband...

My husband works for a high-tech start up company that has endured three rounds of layoffs.

Last week, he was pulled into his boss's office--to discuss a recent merger at the company. My husband
was very surprised when his boss unexpectedly gave him a bonus of a few thousand dollars.

My husband came home and told me about the bonus and we were both very happy. Then, my husband said, "The
only bad thing is that my six employees do not get a bonus. They deserve one. So, I'm going to get them
each $100 Visa Gift Cards and buy them lunch."

I'm ashamed to admit that I was against this. We just endured a flooded basement, and FEMA rejected our
request for assistance, so we've got $7,000 worth of damage to repair. I reminded my husband of this.

My husband left to run an errand, and while he was gone I thought about what my husband had proposed. I felt
so guilty and ashamed that I was so selfish. I also realized that I failed to appreciate what a kind-hearted,
generous and amazing husband I have.

I just wanted to brag about my awesome husband, and let everyone know that there are some decent souls in the
corporate world who really care about people.

I feel like mama bear sometimes. But it's good to let that

I can empathize. That's an awful thing to deal with. :hug: My parents are going through the same thing (they won't get anything from FEMA either). Lost everything in the basement.

I hope they at least applied for FEMA aid. It is so easy and worth the try.

Damn record-year rainfall!

We're definitely getting flood insurance once the moratorium is lifted. Just spoke with
our insurance agent. It's only an extra $10 a month, so well worth it. Your parents may
want to look into that too if needed.

I did a lot of reading about FEMA disaster relief and FEMA goes out of their way to
say that this is not a welfare program and eligibility is not dependent on income.
The stuff I read said that anyone who experiences a disaster deserves services, no
matter what your income is.

The FEMA guy who came to our home, talked about all of the homes he'd been in and
had some very interesting stories about people they helped...college professors,
successful bankers, scientists.

If FEMA came out to their house and their damage was documented thoroughly, they just
might get funds.

Capitalism pits workers against one another and pit managers against workers because corporations are pitted against one another. But the truth is that most people don't want to live like that. Most of us want to work hard and be kind to one another. In fact, there's been a lot of studies lately that show that human beings tend to be happier giving than receiving.
