Meet the next British Prime Minister
Edited on Thu May-17-07 01:39 AM by Thankfully_in_Britai
Tony Blair is stepping down, and as the left winger John McDonnell has failed to get enough nominations from his fellow MP's it is the Chancellor of the Exchequer Gordon Brown who will become the next British Prime Minister. Therefore I think it's only right that we provide some information on Gordon Brown for you.

Please feel free to ask any questions about Tony Blair's successor as PM and leader of the Labour party.

1. Well, he's smarter than Bliar
in an intellectual sense, but I doubt he'll appeal to the Tory Lite voters that accepted Bliar as the Son of Thatcher.

2. Well he isn't as smiley or charmy as Blair
so in that sense I think you have a point, although the real proof of the pudding will most likely be what he does as PM.

It is worth noting that some people see Tory leader David Cameron as Tony Blair's real heir (well he is totally vacuous for starters!).

3. Spin. It all depends on the spin (and "celebrity" and general "dumbed-downness")
- what I call cretinization. Or will it stop, now?

No it won't, although Labour may try and be less obvious about it.

To be perfectly frank spin is the main thing that Blair will be remembered for. New Labour practically turned political spin into an art form.

What worries me though is that every time Labour suffers a setback in local elections the likes of Hazel Blears come out and say that it's not the policies that are wrong but the presentation. In fact it's usually the opposite that's true and all they are doing is the political equivalent of polishing turds.

6. To be perfectly frank
after the fuss and pallaver in the UK press every time Blair went somewhere on holiday I'm hoping that the PM's holidays are not an issue in the media for a while to come.
