In my opinion, Glenn Beck's rally was a huge failure.
I listened to clips of his speech and his interview with Chris Wallace on Fox 'News', and I still have absolutely no idea what the hell this guy is talking about.

What a pointless exercise; Beck gets together thousands of people who are angry at the 'gubmint' and Obama, and gets up there and walks everything back that he has said on radio and TV, asks people to not bring signs that would actually show how fucking stupid they are, has Sarah shriek a few words, helps Alveda King make a buck on her uncle's name, and blows his opportunity and his 15 minutes of fame by chickening out and not saying what he REALLY means and blurts out a few platitudes about the good Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King and some crap about "Restoring Honor".

I mean, this gibberish about 'restoring America' is just a bunch of dog-whistle talk for 'WE HAVE A BLACK PRESIDENT'. These ill-informed followers of Beck simply want a return to the 19th century, you know, like when folks like Obama 'knew their place'. Beck NEVER explained what this means.

Does it strike you, like me, that these people are pissed but don't even know why or who they are pissed off at?

The end result, of course, will be nothing. This event will go down in history as a joke; a blurt of gasbaggery worth no more than a fart by Father Coughlin or Rush Limbaugh.

It is to laugh. Beck, if he were normal, would be humiliated. Instead, he will revel in the attention.

What a sad and pathetic human being.

12. He was struck even dumber?
The miracle was for us, I think. That he called together his hungry hordes, yearning for those magic words to feed their fevered thoughts, and gave them cheezwhiz and steakums instead of raw, red meat.

2. Try to imagine people showing the vidoe in 50 years ....
and discussing its "impact" .... that won't happen.

It was a non event.

Consider that MLK had around 250k people and no cable news to promote it ... no Fox news Host to "host it".

Beck's event .... Epic fail.

3. In my opinion...something happened...he changed that speech on the day of the rally.
He was rambling on and on about nothing...obviously, the message and prepared speech he had intended to deliver was shelved.

Curious as to what happened.

21. I am fighting off depression.........
because fundementally I see the problem with the country is we are in such a f-ed up state that we can't figure out what our Priorities should be. We waste so much time and money on the wrong things and nobody cares. Indeed our country is in a sad state, and it continues to worsen by the day....HOPE? I am having trouble hoping anymore. WE need to be the change we want to see, not look to others for it.

7. Bingo.
I'd really like to know what happened. Clearly this was watered down big time in order to stave off a public relations disaster for the Republicans.

They've let the genie out of the bottle and don't know what to do now.

26. That is what I am thinking as well.
I even thought I recalled him discussing why he was doing this on MLK day, and then being surprised when he pretended recently that the day was chosen randomly.

During the run-up to his event, he said that in the last ten minutes of his speech, he would say something that would change our nation forever. Or transform it forever - the big moment. That must have been changed last minute too, because I can't find anyone talking about something huge that came out of his speech at the end of it. He hyped one thing, and delivered something void of content. Any content at all.

Granted, I have a hard time staying on conservative boards for too long at a stretch, but for the most part, those people don't seem at all sure about the real message of Beck's rally. I skimmed his speech, and it was bizarre and nonsensical. I too would love to hear what happened in the final days before this rally.

33. It's a good thing (for Beck) God said no
God might have made him say "Sieg Heil!" and "America Over All" (I was gonna say "America Uber Alles" but teabaggers barely speak English so I seriously doubt they can handle German) so all his loving fans would know what he's really about.

"Dear God! How could you forsake me?"
'I didn't. You're just a fuckhead. Go away.'

23. Wall Street screwed the Economy to the Max but these people
blame the government??? We know what happened--The Republicans
in the House and Senate, Hate Radio, Television pulled out
their small government mantra, twisted things around blaming
the Left and Obama. With no push back the GOP line stood
and now the people parrot it. This is standard GOP strategy
while Democrats stand around looking clueless.

28. I think most of the people here are grossly underestimating him.
The fact that a person like Beck was able to gather this many people should frighten all of us. He's not showing his true colors now. That doesn't mean he won't later. And in the meantime, he's developing more and more followers.

32. I think the reverse
I think people have overestimated him. The man has a national platform on the largest cable news network as well as a very large radio audience and considering this, the turnout yesterday was dismal. The event was amateur and sleep-inducing. Frankly, I'm surprised the crowd refrained from throwing things at him just to pass the time.

31. I agree with you & am equally confused - but I believe Beck is very dangerous in the long term
My sister "converted" to Mormonism years ago & is the only smoking, coffee-drinking Mormon I know of, but my experience is otherwise limited. She also hangs a rosary off the rear-view mirror of her car & her local Mormon Bishop loves her. I'm a very confused person, but I do love my sister.

I have studied spirituality & Comparative Religion for decades & I still can't figure out what the hell Beck stands for except for himself. His religion seems to be ego - the antithesis of Christianity.

I'm sure that Christianity requires service to others & I hear none of that in his whining & criticizing. I also see, unfortunately, that many of the folks who listen to him are confused & upset & looking for a "leader" & he pretends he is one.

I don't want to preach & am not qualified in any case, but my personal Christianity tells me & my ego I must serve, turn the other cheek, wash feet, carry a personal cross, do unto others...I hear & see nothing of that in Beck & the people who are looking to him for help. It's a kick in the ass to know that as we all suffer, to be "Christian" we're asked to "give more" to our neighbors. But looking for Raptures & being sucked up naked into clouds is not the message I've ever gotten from any religion, least of all my own. I'm sure I'm not alone.
