Self identified "liberals and athiests" have higher IQs than conservative/religious...
CNN article from February on study done on US adults...Liberals ARE smarter, more likely to be concerned about the welfare of strangers than conservatives, more likely to be better partners in monogamous relationships...

4. I want to see an EMPATHY IQ
That is what the conservatives are really missing. Intelligence is not all that helpful if you are a sociopathic, greedy, narcissistic, sadist. In fact we are probably lucky that most conservatives aren't that bright.

6. As a British left-wing atheist, I still find Kanazawa quite dodgy.
Edited on Tue Aug-17-10 11:19 AM by LeftishBrit
As I stated on an earlier thread, he is the sort of rather simplistic evolutionary psychologist who thinks that every individual item of behaviour must be genetically controlled and have directly evolved for some specific purpose.

This can lead, and does in his case, to very reactionary views that traditional social mores are 'human nature' and cannot or should not be modified. For example, sex roles. He has called feminism 'evil':

http://www.psychologytoday.com/blog/the-scientific-fundamentalist/200908/why-modern-feminism-is-illogical-unnecessary-and-evi

His views on race are equally nasty:

http://webcache.googleusercontent.com/search?q=cache:BHupmtXJ5AcJ:www.guardian.co.uk/uk/2006/nov/05/highereducation

Also see his views on war, hate, and Ann Coulter:

http://www.psychologytoday.com/blog/the-scientific-fundamentalist/200803/why-we-are-losing-war.

Even when he comes up with a result that we happen to like, I think we need to distrust him.

9. One big problem with that study....
is the insistence that "having one partner has always been advantageous to women".

Read the book Sperm Wars, and you will forever change your view about human promiscuity. It's genetically inherent to BOTH genders. After all, who are men being promiscuous WITH? It ain't all with just a few women after all...

12. If you do not find more independent thinking in a group of independent thinkers ...
... you're probably the one bringing down the average.

Pick any group of independent thinkers, then check their independent thinking, you'll find a higher IQ, and the usual number of morons as well.

13. Intelligent people seem more likely to be liberal and/or atheist.
Edited on Tue Aug-17-10 01:38 PM by Marr
That's a long way from "liberals are smarter". There are plenty of stupid people who call themselves liberals or atheists. There are very intelligent conservatives, too. I think I've met a few myself.

One big difference I do note, at least in this country, is that the right-wing seems to promote stupidity and ignorance as a virtue. Intelligent conservatives seem comfortable with the notion that some people should exploit others, and the ones I've known all either considered themselves to be in the "exploiter" category, or expected to be there fairly soon. Maybe that's why the Conservative movement is comfortable promoting ignorance-- I don't know.
