19. Developer says report not true; project on track at same site:
Haaretz Reporting Mosque Developers Will Announce Move Away From Ground Zero - UPDATED »
By Celeste Katz

UPDATE from our Sam Goldsmith, who's been following this issue and just got off the phone with Sharif El-Gamal, the developer of the project:

"That's complete misinformation. That's crazy," El-Gamal said.

"That's totally totally wrong. This is more misinformation in this web of misinformation."

"We've never even talked about this as an idea. Everything is on track and moving forward at the same location."

8. the kkk was also very successful in convincing the "wrong" kind of people to move away
a sad day indeed.

one does wonder where it would have all gone -- had they gone ahead with it, would the building and its visitors been subject to attacks from the haters?

12. How can it be killed?
Short of a court injunction, which would DEFINITELY insert government into religious business, who has authority to kill it? It is already approved, it fits the government guidelines for construction, and killing it now would not pass constitutional muster.

What's that called when a law is passed to deleteriously affect a single particular subject? Not only would they have to do that (unconstitutional) but they'd have to make it retro-active to deny the building permit (unconstitutional).

Since it was legal to build it there at the time the permit was approved, it CANNOT be killed, no matter what law is passed.
