Dead-eye Dick must be in a vegetative state
If anyone was able to get involved in this mosque insanity it would be that old prick.

If he was able to ...

I don't think we are going to be hearing anything from this good ole boy any more.

Don

1. he sure has been quiet
. . . after months of bleating - even more than Palin, at times. Interesting thought, even though he was reportedly being released to home a week or so ago.

3. They don't put an LVAD in unless someone is days from death
and sometimes it's hours from death. Cheney has had a very close brush with mortality and my guess is that he's just a little preoccupied with that right now, that and recovering form having his chest sawn open again.

While he'll be able to leave his house on the battery packs, going farther than just the immediate area will require a mobile generator for his console. Most interviews, when or if they happen, will likely take place in his home.

10. that is baldly false
They wanted to put one in my dad after his latest bout with heart failure but at first figured he was too sick for it and then when he got better he decided against it. But the fact is you need to have enough heart function in your right ventricle to power the device and you need to be healthy enough to survive the surgery and the drugs you need to prevent rejection (my dad's issue was liver and kidney function). Incidently this was several months ago and he is still doing fine, well as fine as his heart history allows. My dad is likely to live around a year give or take but that is hardly the days you are suggesting. I can't speak to Cheney's case in particular, though his history and my dad's are similar, but I can speak to the notion that these devices are used only on those who are 'hours from death'. That is crap.

12. I don't think Warpy was wishing your dad ill.
It's good to hear he's doing well. One of my uncles has been flying back and forth from El Salvador for a similar situation. It's been pretty scary.

18. If you don't like my experience
try Duke Medical Center's (that is where Kennedy went for brain cancer treatment in case you haven't heard of them).

http://www.dukeheartcenter.org/handler.cfm?event=practice,template&cpid=25089

WHEN IS IT INDICATED?

An LVAD is generally indicated in patients who:
Were not helped by medical therapy;
Have end-stage heart failure;
Recently had heart surgery and need to reduce demand on the heart temporarily;
Are awaiting heart transplant and need a supplemental pumping mechanism to stay alive in the meantime; or
Are ineligible for other treatments but need long-term support for a weak heart.

My dad was under the fifth category. Notice hours and days from death isn't mentioned.

28. Please get your dad some OTC
CoQ10, 200 mg daily. All my doctors approve of this (cardiologist, nephrologist, primary care, and it has taken my heart's ejection fraction from 48% back to 75%. Most doctors will tell you that it is impossible to regain lost function, but that is NOT the case, as my own history has shown. When my cardiologist first saw the results verifying this healing, he was stunned and almost speechless. Good luck to your dad.

17. Thank you AAV. I have been silent up until today when I saw
this thread. I think it's time to talk about my illness only because I don't want everyone to be surprised when the end is near. I also can use the good pats on the back like the one you and Beth gave me. They mean everything to me at this stage of the game, all I have is my positive state of mind to keep me going and the positive vibes from people like you.

Never change...

20. Yes, but I am not rich like the Dick. He will get a transplant just
by ordering off the menu. Me, it will take a precious long time I won't have, I do not feel sorry for him. Do you know what a LVAD device cost? Just the device, not the surgery is over 50,000 dollars. The surgery, well priceless....

I know everything is insanely expensive now. Haven't been near a doctor since I lost my insurance more than 15 years ago. My choices are stay healthy or tell everyone to bring my favorite flowers and to play loud music at the wake.

26. No, but last I heard they are loud, the Dick's is probably modified
to fit the Dick and play mp3s.

I had to separate from my husband in order to get Medicaid so I could have insurance. I have disability, and in 2 years, medicare. I had to, I am too sick not to do this. I am getting more care than none, which is what every insurance company said to me, none. Since I don't work and get disability, I qualified.

19. Hope he survives for a bit, giving lots of useful experience to the docs working on him
Edited on Sun Aug-15-10 01:25 PM by Posteritatis
He won't last long anyway - from what I can tell he's got a plethora of issues to say nothing of the stuff brought on by anyone's time in the WH - and I doubt he'd be in much of a position to have a big public profile after this even if everything went well. So if things do go well, he gets a few more months or years, some docs get a challenge that will probably help other people later, and we likely won't hear much from him anyway. Everyone wins!

29. When you put it like that, who am I to argue. The more the Dr.'s
know about this condition, the better. Angioplasty has been the best thing that has happened to heart disease in the last few years. But in the end, it is hard to stop the downward spiral..

I'm sure Faux already has 24 hour coverage to air when Cheney leaves this world to go to the fiery hell where he belongs. All of the right wingers will be talking about how good Cheney was. I'm sure it will be nauseating but I won't watch it.

The spectrum ranges from silence on the issue to politicians and groups, like Keep America Safe, led by Liz Cheney and Weekly Standard editor Bill Kristol, gearing up to engage the battle over the mosque and the basket of other issues involving the Obama administration's relationship with Muslims at home and abroad.

"The president supports a mosque at ground zero led by a man who blamed America for 9/11, his top intelligence official preaches the true meaning of jihad, and his attorney general can't even say the words 'radical Islam,'" said Michael Goldfarb, an adviser to Keep America Safe. "You start to worry they don't understand who the enemy is, and so Republicans might understandably feel like they have to spell it out for them."
