I think Falwell was wrong in many aspects, if not most of his philosophy. But I don't see him as spewing hate. He spoke HIS truth. Like ya'll do. But his truth was different than yours. (which of course makes him worthy of the most anger.) And what really pisses everyone off here is that he did it well, was successful and trumped a whole lot of us in the process. He had power; he had money; he had fame and respect of a whole segment of the population. THAT's where the hate really comes from. If he were Fred Phelps, you'd be laughing. But now that he has escaped the surly bonds of earth and gone to the worms (because ask anyone on DU, there IS no hell) he WON. He put Reagan in power and he started the whole damned religious right and there are plenty to take his place. Instead of gloating we should be trying to figure out his appeal and how we can blunt it in a positive and proactive way.

Therefore, he is subhuman, worthy of damnation, not a man who has a right to his beliefs, no matter how different from the left agenda.
