BAGHDAD - Three more US troops have been killed in Iraq, the military said on Tuesday, while thousands of their comrades pursued a huge search for three soldiers seized by Al Qaeda.

A marine, a soldier and an airman died in separate incidents on Monday, the military said, bringing to 3,399 the number of deaths since the US-led invasion of 2003, and raising May’s death toll to 56 with half the month still to go.

US commanders have warned that they expect higher casualties as one of the risks of intensified security operations.

Meanwhile, thousands of US troops were still scouring insurgent strongholds south of Baghdad for three soldiers who were captured on Saturday in a deadly Al Qaeda ambush near the town of Mahmudiyah.

14. Exactly! I'll save my mourning for them ... not some bile-filled hate-monger..
These are people struck down by the greed and predation BEFORE they even came close to 73 years of age.

Falwell got his three-score and thirteen ... and $millions.

9. K&R
How many roads must a man walk down
Before you call him a man?
Yes, 'n' how many seas must a white dove sail
Before she sleeps in the sand?
Yes, 'n' how many times must the cannon balls fly
Before they're forever banned?
The answer, my friend, is blowin' in the wind,
The answer is blowin' in the wind.

How many times must a man look up
Before he can see the sky?
Yes, 'n' how many ears must one man have
Before he can hear people cry?
Yes, 'n' how many deaths will it take till he knows
That too many people have died?
The answer, my friend, is blowin' in the wind,
The answer is blowin' in the wind.

How many years can a mountain exist
Before it's washed to the sea?
Yes, 'n' how many years can some people exist
Before they're allowed to be free?
Yes, 'n' how many times can a man turn his head,
Pretending he just doesn't see?
The answer, my friend, is blowin' in the wind,
The answer is blowin' in the wind.

11. I wonder how many Iraqis are being harmed in their homes while we're searching
for the three soldiers, which will only contribute to the vicious cycle already in place.

15. With 4000 US troops allegedly diverted to the search
...the likelihood is very high. Remember how the Marines in Haditha reacted after an IED killed one of their own.

16. I sense a siege mentality taking place among our troops right now.
"Go massive. Sweep it all up. Things related and not." --Rumsfeld

That, in part, is what got our troops stuck in this mire in the first place.

18. It's natural, given the circumstances
Many of them have been there before and will have noticed over time that the longer they fight, the more ground they lose. They aren't even safe in the Green Zone anymore. And they also know their CiC isn't going to let them come home till "the job is done", while knowing full well the window of opportunity for that closed long ago. They're literally left fighting for their lives every minute of every day. I'd be in a siege mentality too. But it'll only make things worse.

Violence begets violence. We used to say that a lot here. I guess we don't anymore because it's become so obvious.

19. Yep. The more you deploy, the better your chances
of choosing the short matchstick. That's got to be on every soldier's mind.

To say I am sick of heart about this war is an understatement....

My deepest heartfelt sympathies to the families of these soldiers....

20. They literally are kids.
A friend of mine sells cars off base. He told me that newly enlisted soldiers fresh out of bootcamp sometimes come into the shop with older friends in the same unit, who are looking to order a car with their upcoming combat pay. He said the 19 y.o.s act like they'd like to ask a question about the cars but are too shy to speak up, afraid they'll betray their ignorance about making such a big buy...so innocent, esp. those from small town anywhere.

They're the ones dying in Iraq.
