Is Dan Quayle's Son Pretending to Have Kids?

Ben Quayle, the son of Vice President Dan Quayle, is running for Congress in Arizona. Here, he announces that he and his wife Tiffany "are going to raise our family here." Awww. Those are his daughters, right? No? Wait, what?

Ben Quayle, as the Arizona Capitol Times realized, doesn't actually have any kids. So who are those two cherubs? Well, originally the campaign said they were "relatives of a staff member and happened to be at a campaign event," which would have been pretty funny. As it turns out, they're his nieces, so the graphic is only sort of misleading instead of totally weird.

Either way, this is a hugely important scandal! Why don't you have kids yet, Ben Quayle? Answer the question, candidate! Answer the question!!

Scandal: Katie Couric Confused By Palin Kids' Names

Some raw footage has leaked of Katie Couric practicing an introductory segment on Sarah Palin in 2008, during which Couric says about Palin's kids, "Where the hell do they get these names?" Scandal! Lamestream media!

Politico's Jonathan Martin writes that "Sarah Palin allies" are "circulating" this video, which shows the evil Katie Couric hearing the names "Trig" and "Track" and having the exact same "WTF?" reaction that everyone else on Earth had at the time. Couric also fact-checks the pronunciation of "Wasilla," because she had not heard of it. These snobs from the big city! They don't know shit.

So, will Sarah Palin's ghostwriter take the time to condemn Katie Couric again today on Facebook? She still hates Couric over that "most devastating series of interviews ever" thing during the 2008 campaign, after all. It'll probably happen.

1. What about Michael Bennet's kids in his ad?

Every ten minutes I see Michael Bennet's own kids on TV endorsing him.

It borders on child exploitation.

2. People use their own children as human shields all the time.....

...."Oh my kids are waiting in the car" is an excuse to screw anyone over in daily life and it should be no surprise that Quayle is trying to appeal people using those techniques.

5. Grow up Palin...
Back in 1976, my husband and I chose an unusual name for our daughter. We got many WTF? looks, and people asking "Where in the world did you come up with that one?"

I'm not convinced Couric was singling out the Palin brigade as much as just commenting on some of the unusual names out there.
