Projections: Bernero tops Dillon in Dem primary for governor

By CHRIS CHRISTOFF
FREE PRESS STAFF WRITER

Lansing Mayor Virg Bernero has won the Democratic primary for governor, topping House Speaker Andy Dillon, according to Detroit Free Press/Channel 7 results from a sampling of 79 key voter precincts around the state.

Bernero led Dillon, 62% to 38%, 25 of the 79 precincts reporting results.

The same survey showed a close race on the Republican side, with Ann Arbor businessman Rick Snyder holding a slim lead over U.S. Rep. Pete Hoekstra. Snyder led Hoekstra, 37% to 32%.

Attorney General Mike Cox was trailing in third place with 19% , and Oakland County Sheriff Mike Bouchard was a distant fourth with 11%.

Bernero voted at 7 a.m. in Lansing and Dillon voted at 8:30 in Redford Township. ...........(more)

13. Arkansas was no where near as clear a choice
Halter was no liberal poster child. He supported a constitutional amendment banning adoption by gays for example. As horrible as Lincoln was I don't know who I would have supported in that race.

2. That would be WONDERFUL
I'm anxiously awaiting the results to start flowing in. I'm really curious to see how the rethuglican race shakes out. Snyder is the least repugnant rethuglican, in that race. I would love to see Hoekstra humiliated.

5. I think the Manoogian Mansion party ad probably hurt him.
I don't even remember who was running it, but it was good.

10. If he goes around the state giving that barnburner speech he gave tonight,
I don't see how he could possibly lose. He took on the corporations, Wall Street, The Super-Rich, Fair Trade vs. Free Trade. Best populist speech I've ever heard!

12. Oh, it was inspirational, truly. If you find it online, maybe you could
post a link, so others can watch it - it's that's good! Hey, he kept Lansing from sinking, despite the horrid economy. WLNS might have it online... :hi:
