Jack Conway: KY-Sen: Rand Paul and the first floor
by Jack Conway for Senate
By Jonathan Drobis, campaign manager of Jack Conway for U.S. Senate

On Monday, Jack Conway went to a rally marking the twentieth anniversary of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA).

He tells me it was an honor to be there, not just to celebrate that historic legislation -- passed by a Democratic Congress and signed by President George H.W. Bush -- but also to celebrate the opportunities it has opened for so many Americans.

Rand Paul was invited to the event, too, but amazingly he's said he opposes the ADA.

Apparently Rand Paul thinks Americans with disabilities, including service members injured in the line of duty, should limit their ambitions to the first floor.

Instead, he chose to hold a high-dollar fundraiser with President Bush's son Jeb, who tarnished a truly bright spot in his family's legacy by raising money for a candidate like Rand Paul.

What Rand Paul doesn't understand is that this isn't about elevators; it's about fundamental American values like equality, compassion, and opportunity.

Our team put together a video with news coverage and reactions from people with disabilities at Monday's events: (video at link)

I know for many of you -- including almost everyone Jack talked to at Netroots Nation last week -- the prospect of Rand Paul joining the current lineup of Senate Republicans is a scary thought.

Please visit our petition at www.WhyStandWithRand.com calling on Jeb Bush to explain why he ignored his father's legacy by hosting a fundraiser for Rand Paul on the anniversary of the ADA. If you could help out our campaign with a contribution through ActBlue, I know Jack would really appreciate it. Thank you.

3. end the drug war
end our hot wars

(actually, #1 is socialized medicine - something the Paul family, GOP, and DLC all oppose)

4. Fair enough
but for me there are just too many issues on the wrong side of the balance to wish for Rand Paul in the US Senate.

His whole theory of how economics and society should be are just whacked imho.

5. After about 20 years of activism I have learned I have no power
either Paul will be a senator or he will not be..

I know that few, if any, elected officials are willing to call for real answers / hard work. Everyone craves feathers in their caps and easy answers.

All I really want is to be able to live the next 2 decades (39 now) without being in unbearable pain. The meds and the treatments exist, I just can't afford them. And this year "our" team will be running on "health care" (really insurance industry) "reform". Obviously I can't consider passing a bill that leaves me in the same sinking boat a great success.

All in all, Obama will get my vote. If I was healthy enough to GOTV in Pike County, PA - I would. But I am not and I won't be doing any GOTV stuff until 2014 when my friend is up for re-election. God willing I will still be alive and able to get around.

Thanks for the reply = peace and low stress..

6. Really? So you'd like Rand Paul to just be able to arbitrarily hold up bills he didn't like
because they didn't funnel enough money to Supreme Overlord Zod? Or perhaps you'd like to see birther bills get introduced every day in the Senate?

7. If that is who the people vote for, I will respect their decision
I really don't have a problem with Ron Paul, although I disagree with much of what he stands for. I don't know much about Rand, except he beat the GOP endorsed candidate and might lose to a (D) where the GOP primary loser would have won no contest.
