BREITBART: "I could care less about Shirley Sherrod"
Edited on Thu Jul-22-10 11:43 AM by kpete
Andrew Breitbart issues correction, sort of

..........

“While Ms. Sherrod made the remarks captured in the first video featured in this post while she held a federally appointed position, the story she tells refers to actions she took before she held that federal position,” the correction reads.

Breitbart has been unapologetic in defending his decision to post the original edited video, blaming the NAACP in a recent interview with Fox News’ Sean Hannity for having picked a fight with the tea party.

“I could care less about Shirley Sherrod, to be honest with you. This is not about Shirley Sherrod,” Breitbart told Hannity. “This is about tarring the American people and the tea party movement with the false charge of racism.”

The NAACP has since apologized and Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack has offered Sherrod a new job, one she is considering whether she wants to accept

20. Defamation of character
It can be hard to prevail in a defamation suit but she has a slam-dunk in the necessary matter of proving actual harm.

27. I think it's a slam-dunk on both actual harm and malicious intent.
The idiot himself said his whole purpose was to find racism at the NAACP.

30. Did he do anything more than show a clip of her speaking?
If not, I'm not sure how she sues for defamation when all he did is show a clip of her own speech.

If he called her a racist, then perhaps she has a case. Maybe.

Except public figures get called racists and homophobes every day.

I'm just unclear how effective a lawsuit would be.

37. He showed a HIGHLY EDITED clip
Had he shown the whole thing to make his point you might have a point -- but the editing was carefully done to make it look like she was saying exactly the opposite of what the full clip shows she meant.

6. I could care less about Breitbart
The guy is a nasty, mean spirited partisan hack. If some of this sullies his name or brings him any kind of grief as far as I'm concerned he deserves it.

He deserves a whole lot more though.

9. In Breitbart's war, Sherrod was merely collateral damage.
Edited on Thu Jul-22-10 11:48 AM by BrklynLiberal
Anyone who got in the way of his attack on the NAACP, or anybody else his psychopathology targets, is merely part of the cost of doing war....

No more, no less.

He is one sick f*ck.

And such a statement by him totally obliterates any claim that he may have made about not having anything to do with the editing of the video.

21. I don't understand the wording - is it "could care less" or "couldn't care less" that is worse?
I would think "couldn't care less" because that would mean you care so little that your amount of caring couldn't possibly be any less.

"Could care less" means that he actually does care and there is actually quite a bit of room left there for him to care before he gets to the threshhold of not caring.

I've never understood this saying and which version is correct.

26. It is "couldn't". "I couldn't or could not care less"
People get that wrong all the time. Your first observation is correct. When a person "could not care any less" they are expressing indifference bordering on contempt. It is one of those phrases that people mangle regularly.

Another is "he did a complete 360" when they mean to say that a person had a drastic change of attitude or behavior. A complete 360 means that you haven't changed trajectory at all but have come back full circle to the same point. "A complete 180" is a reversal or a drastic change.

Anyway, those are two mangled phrases the make me cringe when I hear them.

33. ha ha, thanks for backing me up on this - it drives me crazy too.
I hate it even more when people shorten it and slangly just say "I could care!!!" (as a shortened version of "I could care less") because that makes even less sense. Or maybe that implies that they don't care, but they could? But if they don't care, why would they. Ugghhh.

This is just one of the many disadvantages in society that those of us who take what people say literally have to deal with. :)

ha ha, "a complete 360"....

His lawyer told him his ass is grass so he better 'mitigate' the damages by publishing a retraction. Idiot publishes this which ain't gonna save his ass, imo.

To Breitbart from me.

"Way to go you racist, sexist douche bag because not only did you wrongly frame an African American for racism, but she was an African American woman, which seems to be a favorite target of you white, racist, sexist sociopaths."
