Newt on Ground Zero mosque: we should be more like Saudi Arabia
http://tpmmuckraker.talkingpointsmemo.com/2010/07/gingrich_on_ground_zero_mosque_we_should_be_more_l.php

Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich is the latest to weigh in on the controversial plans to build a mosque near Ground Zero, posting a statement on his website yesterday laying out this ultimatum: "There should be no mosque near Ground Zero in New York so long as there are no churches or synagogues in Saudi Arabia."

As we've reported, right-wingers have been freaking out about plans to build the Cordoba House, a Muslim community center, near Ground Zero.

Gingrich is the latest to speak out against the plan, writing that "the time for double standards that allow Islamists to behave aggressively toward us while they demand our weakness and submission is over."

He was also clear about who else is at fault for allowing these plans: "Sadly, too many of our elites are the willing apologists for those who would destroy them if they could. No mosque. No self deception. No surrender. The time to take a stand is now - at this site on this issue."

7. Only Islamic extremist leaders publicly advocate aggression.
Edited on Thu Jul-22-10 01:05 PM by Urban Prairie
As do hypocrite Christian extremist "leaders", like Newt and those of his ilk. This delusional jackass must really believe that his God will condemn all Muslims to hell, because they do not share the same beliefs that he has.

If Newt is a devout Catholic, then he was taught about and preached to from the same Bible as I was as a child, and he very well knows that he is ignoring the most basic tenets of his faith, and advocating the persecution of Muslims who are US citizens, by being opposed to permitting those belonging to a recognized, peaceful, and legitimate faith (that is practiced by over a billion followers worldwide) to legally build a place of worship anywhere in this country.

Gingrich panders to and subtly encourages aggressive behavior by the same types of violence-prone, lunatic-fringe zealots as those that he accuses of being.

Edited on Thu Jul-22-10 12:52 PM by Guy Whitey Corngood
We should also be more like the country which financed the largest terrorist attach on this country. GOT IT! See, using right wing logic and techniques can be fun. I expect that this is what I'll read in every newspaper in the country and the networks will blabber endlessly about it, right?

10. And there goes his presidential bid.
Poor Newt, it's always two steps forward, three steps back for that little serial adulterer. Headline reads "I want America to be more like Saudi Arabia." now he has to try and explain that insane notion. In politics, when you are explaining, you are losing.

What an idiot.

15. "to weigh in on the controversial plans to build a mosque near Ground Zero"
Edited on Thu Jul-22-10 02:22 PM by BrklynLiberal
This plan is "controversial" ONLY because people like cheating on his sick wife, unfaithful husband Newt Gingrich keep pouring gasoline on the idea hoping it will eventually catch fire...and then they can jump up and down and point and yell "FIRE! FIRE!"
The man is a schmuck.

http://fromtheleft.wordpress.com/2006/06/20/infidelity-and-three-republican-president-hopefuls/
Newt Gingrich was the most notorious of them all. Gingrich, who ran for Congress in 1978 on the slogan, "Let Our Family Represent Your Family." (He was reportedly cheating on his first wife at the time). In 1995, an alleged mistress from that period, Anne Manning, told Vanity Fair's Gail Sheehy: "We had oral sex. He prefers that modus operandi because then he can say, 'I never slept with her.'" Gingrich obtained his first divorce in 1981, after forcing his wife, who had helped put him through graduate school, to haggle over the terms while in the hospital, as she recovered from uterine cancer surgery. In 1999, he was disgraced again, having been caught in an affair with a 33-year-old congressional aide while spearheading the impeachment proceedings against President Clinton.

Edited on Thu Jul-22-10 02:31 PM by KamaAina
Assuming, for the sake of argument, that the presence or absence of mosques in the U.S. bears any relation whatsoever to the lack of churches or synagogues in Saudi Arabia, it would then follow that Newtsie is opposed to all mosques in the U.S., not just in NYC.

And to think, he's taught college, albeit at Kennesaw State in Ga. :dunce:

edit: And where was Newt's poutrage when we knuckled under to the Saudis and ferried our own Jewish troops, who were there protecting them, out to sea by helicopter so they could attend Jewish services aboard a Navy ship, because they're banned in Saudi Arabia?

19. Thom Hartmann says it's not a mosque; it's a full service Community Center, financed by Muslims, and
containing an ecumenical prayer room. Perhaps THAT'S the Real Problem.

If you want your government saying what religions are OK or not OK, then you are free to move to Saudi Arabia or Iran.
