Oil Spill Seepage: Rupture Reported At Top Of Well
http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2010/07/19/oil-spill-seepage-rupture_n_651626.html

WASHINGTON (AP) -- A White House spokesman says BP's ruptured oil well is leaking at the top, along with seepage about two miles away.

Robert Gibbs also says officials are monitoring bubbles that can be seen on an underwater camera.

Leaks could mean the cap on the well has to be opened to prevent oil and gas from escaping elsewhere.

The mechanical cap on the well stopped the flow of oil into the Gulf of Mexico on Thursday.

1. This is why they were monitoring it, so they could open it and divert
the oil to the ships if need be. Damn.

I hope we don't give them another day to test it.

2. Honestly, given what I've heard about this particular well... I'm not surprised
I hope "bottom kill" is successful.

4. Not the drama (yet) the media is trying to make it. This was expected.
The reason they expected to siphon the oil instead of just capping it was because they thought it would leak other places. Now they plan to siphon off the oil to the tankers above, to reduce the pressure that's forcing the oil out of other breaks in the pipe. This was never expected to be the final solution, only a way to stop most of the leak until they could plug the well through the reliefs wells at the bottom.

Of course, everyone was hoping this cap would just work on its own, but that wasn't really what they expected.

7. This does hold with what was discussed on some geological sites.
That the casing is ruptured. Many speculated that that is why PB initially put that giant dome over it to collect the oil rather than try to cap it and do further damage to the casing. It has further been speculated that all these capping attempts were just for show till the relief wells could be completed.

After reading all that I'm surprised that this thing has held as much and as long as it has.

8. Hmmm....
If there is seepage from the DWH well two miles away, maybe there are some leaks in the wellbore's segmented casing that are far below where the sediment ends and the bedrock begins, or there is also an additionally longer and more horizontal wellbore that was drilled into the same formation that BP has kept hidden, or the seepage may be coming from another leaking well, or it is a natural seep.

Or maybe the shit really is beginning to hit the proverbial fan... :tinfoilhat: :freak: :yoiks: :hide: :scared:

10. I'm listening to Matt Simmons on Ratigan
and he is blowing my brains. The reason why the pressure is so low is because there is a big hole in the sea floor. He says forget the seep - that their new word for today - more obfuscation.

Simmons makes a lot of sense.

13. spill ... accident ... top hat ... junk shot ... seep ... bubbles
how innocuous the terminology:puke:

the correct verbiage:

While in the process of killing 11 employees, BP created a raging undersea oil volcano, which is killing millions of harmless marine creatures & destroying the Gulf of Mexico & the livelihoods of millions of people.

14. Hey! No problem!!
"Look, 11 people die in traffic accidents every hour and a half...volcanos are natural and occur all the time: look at Mt. St. Helens! Nearly blew the roof off the Northwest of the US of A, now no one hardly talks about it. Millions of creatures, nah, you're DEAD WRONG...it's billions of creatures, and God would not have let BP drill that well if He hadn't intended for these animals and plants to die. It's population control and just part of His Plan. As far as livelihoods go, let them get a job elsewhere if they want to...I was watching CNN yesterday, and they said there were lots of jobs in Kansas, so why don't they just go there?"

See, it's just so easy when you're a RW nutjob.

16. Why doesn't BP just start collecting the oil?
The pressure on the well could further damage the well, so why doesn't BP start collecting the oil until they get the relief wells done?
It doesn't make sense to me.
