Bybee: "I Have Regrets"
Edited on Fri Jul-16-10 11:46 AM by kpete
Jay Bybee's sociopathic self-absorption
http://www.nytimes.com/2010/07/16/us/politics/16interrogation.html?_r=1&hpw

"I have regrets because of the notoriety that this has brought me," he said. "It has imposed enormous pressures on me both professionally and personally. It has had an impact on my family. And I regret that, as a result of my government service, that that kind of attention has been visited on me and on my family."

http://www.salon.com/news/opinion/glenn_greenwald/2010/07/16/sociopaths/index.html
GLENN GREENWALD:
That's what happens when you create a society where elites can engage in the most wretched and destructive acts with total impunity: it engenders a blinding, empathy-free, effete sense of entitlement whereby they see themselves as the only ones who matter and their own plight as the only one worthy of consideration. If you build a political system grounded in the premise that there's an elite caste so special and elevated that they are entitled even to hover above the laws and rules to which everyone else is subjected, the beneficiaries of that caste system are always the first to believe in its virtue.

1. Grenwald nails it again
The only true justice in this world would be for Bybee to ACTUALLY be on the receiving end of his judicial perversions. One of Obama's greatest sins and sure to become his longest lasting legacy is his complete refusal to hold anyone responsible for the crimes of the GW Bush era. It is important to note that the greatest, longest lasting damage to American freedom and the rule of law has less to do with Bybee and others being held to account personally, it is more about the solidifying of the notion that our leaders can do as they please regardless of the Constitution and the rule of law. Future generations are sure to pay a severe price for Obama's lack of political will on these issues.

2. fuck him....
'But Judge Bybee strongly defended the legal advice he did provide to the C.I.A. in 2002 that waterboarding, wall slamming and other methods used by C.I.A. were lawful.'

4. Yes, the notoriety is surely discomforting for Judge Bybee
Not enough for him to step down from the federal bench, but rest assured, victims of American torture, that Judge Bybee regrets that his name is securely affixed to the outlaw methods used on you. He feels really, really bad about that. It puts pressure on him personally and professionally. Not stress position pressure, or waterboarding pressure, but pressure nevertheless. Oh, and the attention! You probably can't quite appreciate in your maimed condition what sort of attention Judge Bybee gets because of this. Highly regrettable for him.

11. Another sociopath wants his life back.
Hey Jay. Here's an idea: Buy a villa on the coast of Spain to get away from yourself.
