Deputy's Taser Strikes BP Employee
Deputy's Taser Strikes BP Employee

CRAWFORDVILLE, Fla. -- A deputy from north central Florida has been suspended for accidentally discharging his Taser, striking a BP employee.

Wakulla County Sheriff's Office spokesman Keith Blackmar said the unidentified deputy has been suspended with pay for the accident on Wednesday.

The deputy was working security at the BP Claims Office in Crawfordville, about 20 miles southwest from Tallahassee, when the Taser was discharged. It struck a woman in the upper body and back. She was not seriously injured.

Blackmar said the Taser was sent back to the manufacturer for review.

As one my Drill Sgt was fond of saying "I'll keep it simple for you idiots; keep your booger hook off the bang switch".

Modern firearms (and that includes tasers) don't just go off. Most wont go off if you dropped them, or slam them against a brick wall.

99.9% of stories in the news about a "gun malfunction", or "it just went off", "it fell and shot someone" = guy pulled trigger. Weapon worked exactly as intended.

The 0.1% would be VERY old revolvers without a safety bar. Most good firearm companies will upgrade older revolvers to use safety bar or isolating bar to prevent hammer strike unless trigger is pulled.

Paraphrasing: "Oh you think that is funny, well it will be even funner in the front leaning rest. EVERYONE DROP"

Most dril Sgts are hilarious but that only makes it worse because they punish you for laughing.
Trust me there is nothing restful about the front leaning "rest".
